7. I'd rather not see so much clutter period

By "clutter" I mean all of the assinine threads a la "What should I put on my pizza (Poll)" or "How quickly will this thread die" or... You get my drift. I understand the need for a social aspect of our forum, but sometimes the social aspect overshadows all other aspects and I have a feeling that instead of a virtual progressive community we turn into a virtual frat.

Seriously, this is for non-political, vanity, and fun posts. I don't mean to get snippy, but I'm getting tired of people who want to turn the lounge into something "decent" or "meaningful." It's here for crazy silly posts, like sex and pizza and whatever.

22. Who said "decent"

The only meaning of the word "decent" that I ever use is to describe something of an above average quality. I'm an avowed relativist when it comes to morality and I don't have anything against sex talk or sex threads or anything to the effect. I'm usually the one making other people uncomfortable with my openess about sex.

But so many threads -- and I realize this is subjective -- around here were simply juvenile. They weren't any kind of a substantive discussion of sex. They were simply there because whoever started them wanted to say the word "SEX". I'm actually convinced that if the posters were actually comfortable about sex they wouldn't be starting threads like that -- the only thrill of starting a thread like that is that you're talking about something that your conservative environment considers an uncomfortable subject.

And the sex threads are only a small part of it. All of the other kindergardner threads such as the ones I mentioned in my previous post are more examples. I honestly cannot see any other reason somebody would start a thread about what they ate for breakfast (and it wasn't even an interesting meal) is that they want to see their name on the board.

Would I engage in censorship? Absolutely not. I'm simply addressing posters and asking them to think about how much anybody else really could possibly care about what they're posting. Since this is absolutely unquantifiable and totally subjective, I would never support censoring it. But I'm asking people to PLEASE think about what they're posting.

What's frustrating is that when I log on to the main Forums page, so many times all I see are threads about people's totally inconsequential everyday issues. Of course, I could go to GD or LBN or whatever -- but I want to see recent threads from all forums.

Maybe the lounge threads than can be excluded from the thread list on the main Forums page. Since most of those threads have little to do with what keeps us together -- which is a progressive mentality -- maybe the Lounge can be a detached forum. Not that I wouldn't visit it, I would. But when I feel like socializing, which is not every time I log in to read the forums.
