1. Do you have a place to go?
Will you be able to use a computer when you get there?

6. That sucks, datasuspect!
I don't know anyone out that way to help you.

There are some places that have computers set up for individual use. Find a library and try to log on. If you can't ... we'll still be sending good vibes your way until we hear from you.

9. there's lots of small towns
between here, dallas, shreveport, etc.

i'll find something.

not too worried about it. they already airlifted the katrina survivors out (a lot ended up in the towns around where i live), but they'll probably get dibs on shelter space.

10. trying to leave before the county decides to do a mandatory evac
if they do that, they'll shut down secondary roads, state hiways, fm routes, etc.

i'd like to snake around on some back roads for a few days . . .

anyone ever have to travel with a cat for an extended period?

i'm worried about where she'll need to use the "potty"

Maybe you could stop to let her out every so often? Do you have a leash for her?

Or maybe put a small litterbox in the rear floorboard? Perhaps you could stop every so often to empty, if she uses it?

12. that's what i was thinking, but it is such a small car . . .
i'm really more worried about the cat's comfort more than anything.

i can handle myself. i just couldn't imagine leaving the cat behind.

14. I traveled with 4 cats on a vacation.
I provided a litter-box and they used it. The most important thing is to take plenty of water and food that your cat likes. Stop often and just talk to your cat, pet it, tell it that everything will be alright.

My parrot tells me several times a day "you're OK" ... they enjoy the loving tone of voice and it will calm both of you.
