Is this where I come to bury my head in the sand?
The world out there is becoming far too scary. I'm very scared of Rita, and I'm nowhere near it.

1. Come in, we'll protect you.
Even from those scary people in the other forums.

2. I'm not afraid of people in other forums.
I mean the REAL world. The REAL world where two Cat 5 hurricanes can whip themselves into a frenzy within three weeks of each other.

Where someone like George Dubya can still muster even a modicum of support, and where someone like him gets to pick TWO Supreme Court justices, including the Chief.

For just a little while, I'd like to pretend that world doesn't exist. Even for a few minutes.

3. Unfortunately,
that is a much harder trick.

If you figure out how to do it, could you please let me know?

5. I don't know. Care to join me in some wine, cheese, and crackers?
I made brownies today. It didn't help.

7. Sounds healthier than the sugary junk
I have been stress eating lately.

I'm on my way to wiping out a 20 pound weight loss and a 300 point drop in triglycerides.

Shall I pour?

9. Please do.
My scale was a-okay this morning. I hope my morning workouts can see me through the inevitable stress eating.

I try not to (stress eat, I mean), and I usually get enough comfort and satisfaction just MAKING the food and feeding it to other people.

But sometimes I give in. I'm having wine, cheese, and crackers for supper, and for now, I'm okay with that.

4. Birding!
You need to take up birding!

It's the cause of, and solution to, all life's problems. :)

10. Well, I had a job
and the job involved some birding, which was good, because then I could use the money to go look at MORE birds, but sady, the job didn't involve enough birding, so I spent my days at

www.virtualbirder.com

www.birdingonthe.net

http://www.bsc-eoc.org/avibase/avibase.jsp?pg=checklist&lang=EN

www.fatbirder.com

http://www.bavarianbirds.de/index_e.html

and www.jabiru.org/chaser

(among others)

so I could bird vicariously at work, but the boss got irritated that I didn't get enough done, so he canned me, and now I have lots of time to bird, but I am worried that I will soon run out of money for gas to go chase birds. :(

So I need to get a new job I so can afford to go birding.

It's like cocaine, sort of.

20. Xema, I would love to go birding with you.
You could teach me some species I don't know. I've only become interested in native Californian species in the last few years, mostly because of my non-native Amazona ochrecephala oratrix

This year I saw a juvenile bald eagle and a mature bald eagle, which was exciting.

We really do need to meet up, but I don't think I want to drive the twisty highway south of my town...hehe. The northerly route isn't so bad. :D

I could also use a botany lesson, if you're into that sort of thing. I'm trying to learn more about native flora and fauna. I'm horrible at the flora part. Animals interest me more because they move around and do interesting things.
