I mean, they know what they want? If they see a half-eaten candy bar on the ground, they'll just snap it up and go hide it from the world.

They can jump from branch to branch with absolutely no fear whatsoever. They can cling upside down to trees and sneer and chirp at whoever is invading their territory. Like I said, no fear.

My hat goes off to that noblest of animals, the Squirrel. :D :silly:

Yes, I'm losing it, so what? :hide:

4. I put bread out for the birds but the squirrels get it.
I found this out when I opened the gas grill the other day and found the squirrel's secret stash. I don't mind though.

5. They are in league with the cats...
in a complicated plot to take over the world.

At least that's what former DUer DarkPhenyx tells me. :tinfoilhat:

7. I have a strange squirrel tale to relate...... we moved here to France
at the beginning of July.

My daughter and I are from Los Angeles, and every morning on our way to school there for years, we'd play a game where if we saw a squirrel on the ground, we'd get 10 points and if we saw one on a phone wire, we'd get 50 points. So, we noticed squirrels, just love the critters.

So here we are in the south of France. And as the weeks go by, we notice that we don't see squirrels, so we started asking around, where are the squirrels? My husband assures me there are squirrels, we don't see no damn squirrels.

So, 2 days later, we're driving down a road we haven't taken before (we do that a lot) and go around a curve and BAM, there's a squirrel, a cute little squirrel all tail up, doing the Geico, stand in the middle of the road thing.... narrow country road, I couldn't swerve or else we'd go off a cliff and down a mountain. My kid is shrieking at the top of her lungs, I've run over the damned squirrel.

I'm laughing my ass off, so hard I can barely drive, at the irony of the fact we've been dying to see a damn squirrel for 2 months and damned if I don't run over the first squirrel I see.

I actually went back the next day to check for a carcass, but didn't see one, and I didn't feel any sort of tire hit, or carriage strike or anything, so, whilst roaring over the irony of it all, I honestly don't believe I hit or killed the little sucker.

Figures we'd run over the first and only squirrel we've seen. I'm sure he and his buddies did the Geico high-five over THAT one.

8. Tree squirrels are respectable, but ground squirrels are tough.
Never corner one. It will happily rip a hole in you. Cats will sometimes go after baby ground squirrels, but they stay away from adults. These squirrels will fight rattlesnakes.

In California, the grizzly bear used to be this squirrel's primary predator, but the grizzley bear is now extinct, and the ground squirrel is more common than ever.
