I am officially having a bad night now. |
|
I was standing outside smoking, when I heard a loud POP. Then the sound of falling glass. It just so happened to be the back window of my new Element. :banghead:

I was standing right there and only heard the one pop, so I don't think it was a rock or whatever. It was 11:30 and the truck was parked in the shade since 5:30 or so, so I don't think heat. I have no clue. Never seen or heard of this kind of thing before.

Thanks. I'll have to do that anyway for the insurance claim. Thats the worst part I was supposed to get it inspected by geico for my insurance policy and have yet to do it. I doubt they'll cover it now.

15. A window break shouldn't be covered by the insurance unless it was part of |
|
another more comprehensive accident.
That said, window is about $100 - $200 bucks, and usually these guys come to you to do the replacement, and it shouldn't be a big deal.
I would do a web search for auto glass flaws in your specific car. I noticed in ford vehicles that they were all cracking and had the same breaks in the same location on a couple of specific series of cars/trucks apparently using the same source for auto glass. I have a compulsion about repeated patterns...
Flaws DO happen in mass production and can effect many thousands of cars at one shot.
If indeed you can find a series of complaints on the net, print them out and make your case to the dealership for free replacement. The car might not even have to be new for that.
Worth checking into, you might get some money back.

I have a $100 any glass fixed policy. A quick search found the glass installed for $450, so I'm sure I can shop that down a bit. Checking for recalls was tomorrows chore because this was just too crazy not to be a factory defect of some kind.

It blew itself out. It's a very quiet night out and I see nothing to make me believe any object, of any kind struck the glass. I was standing 10 feet away when it happened. crazy, just crazy.

I heard of someone that left it on on the summer and the back window exploded because of the intense heat...

It had been parked for 7 hours. It's an 04 so the PC in that damn thing cuts the defroster off after 15 minutes when your driving, let alone when it's shut down. It might be a recall issue I hope.

24. I had a Ford Escort that did that very same thing. |
|
I turned on the rear window defroster and was ready to back out of the driveway when I heard a POP and saw the rear window crumbling into a million pieces.
