Poll question: Most annoying character added to a tv series
Its all about the numbers. A tv show has been doing wonderful for a time. But the numbers start to slip. So the producers decided to run some numbers and come up with the perfect thing to add to the series. A new character. And invevitably they suck.

But who sucked the worst?

Cousin Oliver from the Brady Bunch

Chachi

Scrappy Doo

1. I also hated that little girl they brought to the Cosby Show
Seems that it's always a kid they bring in, to try to cuten things up and change the dynamic of the show enough that it's no longer recognizable. Or good.

And the girl they added to All in the Family.

2. Yep, its marketting
Advertisers want to broaden a particular market. So when a series starts to slump they start pumping to add a char in the target market they want to hit.

4. Scrappy Doo sucked.
I never saw the original Scooby during production, and they always mixed in these Scrappy ones - I wondered "what the hell is this dog doing?"

34. I always wondered if they needed 2 sets of twins for those roles.
The Olsens for the one kid - so did they need 4 kids for 2 parts?

30. Ted begs to differ.
He was on Married With Children for SIX seasons, and Happy Days for four, I think. Overall, he's got more time on TV than William Shatner.

32. Like I said, when Ted appears, the shark has been jumped
MWC last six seasons were crap, and so were Happy Days' last four. Just because the show continues on momentum doesn't mean that it's any good.

9. That little prick Andy on Family Ties
one of those tricks where they use the pregnant gimmick to boost ratings then once the baby's born magically age the brat like six years between seasons so they don't have to deal with the dead weight and logistical problems of having an infant on the show.

20. Other- Paige Matthews - Harmed formerly known as Charmed
Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 01:11 PM by Liberalynn
Shannen Doherty may have a bad reputation off screen but she did a fantastic job of playing Prue Halliwell on Charmed. I was major leauge surprised to find she can act, at least IMHO.

Paige Matthews the half sister, who was revealed after Prue's death (due to Doherty's firing), however, sucks IMHO. Paige may have been a social worker but even then she couldn't do that job right and from day one she cared more about clothes and guys than she did about saving innocents, and she made Piper and Phoebe regress into thirty somethings trying to capture their lost irresponsible puberty too. This show always did appeal to kids more in some ways but at least when Doherty was there she kept on the writers to try and make it interesting for adults too. The same sure can't be said for the last few seasons since she's been gone.

I know it is mostly the writers/producers/WB to blame but IMHO, Rose McGowan also doesn't have near the acting ability that Doherty did either. Her arrival signaled the end for me, and Julian Mcmahon's exit as Cole, sealed it's Death Certificate.

Shannen's been hard to replace twice. Who'd have thunk it?

I couldn't stand her in "Little House" or "Our House".

I never saw her on Beverly Hills.

And they'd get more ratings than "Survivor" did in its first season. :eyes:

37. OMG- Death to SCRAPPY DOO
I still cringe at the sight of him, and I'm a grown woman now !

Oliver & Olivia- trying to regain the cute kid quotient when the Bradys and Huxtables grew up. Always a cue that the show needs to end. . . I guess the new baby on Malcolm in the Middle fits here too.
