Democratic Underground needs volunteers to serve as yard art makers!
Please read this message carefully -- the yard art maker application process has changed. Failure to properly follow instructions will disqualify you to serve as a yard art maker. DU is bigger and busier than ever and we're looking for dedicated people who like to craft plastic storks.

The next yard art maker term will last three months, from the beginning of October until the beginning of January. The term includes the styrofoam gnome-filled holiday season!

Here are some things to bear in mind before you apply:

- Your preference for ceramic deer or pink flamingos is not important... We need yard art makers who appreciate crap of all varieties. We prefer people who have been yard art makers for a while, and have made at least a few hundred pieces of garish yard art that defies explanation. You must be at least 18 years old. You must have donated at least one time to Democratic Underground using your own name. You must know someone who has a plastic pelican in their FRONT yard.

- You must be able to log on to DU regularly, and you should not reside in a home that doesn't have wheels between now and the beginning of January.

- We prefer people with a generally positive outlook on kitsch, who can be fair and evenhanded in their disdain for taste, and who don't get easily frustrated if a nose breaks off their clay rabbit. If you sign up to make yard art, we expect you to stay as a yard art maker until you've sold 7658 pieces of absolute junk to unsuspecting posters in GD. You must understand that it is perfectly normal for the admins to occasionally buy overstock in order to control the market for yard art, or to make specific requests regarding the manner in which you design your weatherproof lifesized Robert E. Lee dolls.

- If you know that you aren't very good at controlling your impulse to design naked and obviously male plastic squirrels, please do not sign up to be a yard art maker. There is no obligation to serve as a yard art maker, but if you choose not to we will send around the boys down in the Science Forum to materialize you back in time and/or into an episode of Battlestar Gallactica, season 1 (now available on DVD).

And I do believe that it won't get locked, either.....

Somebody has waaaaay too much time on his hands......

Aren't you supposed to be writing? Hmmm?

Or does this sort of thing restore you?

3. What if you have a track record
of stealing concrete lawn gulls from prominent ornithologists and repainting them into rare species and putting them in your own front yard?

Does that disqualify you?
