Calf spends a month trapped between hay bales
Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 07:11 PM by Tace
ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) - When a 3-month-old calf disappeared without a trace, Harvey Wolff figured it had been stolen. Turns out the calf was there all along - Wolff just couldn't see it wedged for a month between a pair of 1,200-pound hay bales.

''It looked like he had just about 8 inches to move back and forth and that was it,'' Wolff said.

The calf was 200 pounds lighter and covered with insect bites when Wolff caught a glimpse of black fur in a crevice between bales.

''I must have walked by five times within 10 feet and I never saw him,'' Wolff said. ''It was a stroke of luck when I did.''

1. Thank goodness he found him...
Now he can fatten him up and turn him into veal.

2. no shit
I hope this doesn't start a trend.

When people I like order veal, I don't like them as much.

6. I've never had veal, believe it or not.
My parents could never afford it except to occasionally order it in a restaurant.

When I learned what miserable lives these calves have, I lost any interest in trying it. I doubt I'm missing much.

3. I like your thinking
How should we take our veal?

5. Sorry...not my preference, but
I seriously doubt that we'll read anything else about the poor critter. Unless someone wants to make a movie about a brilliant young cow who saves the world, ala Babe.

7. You're probably right.
I know I too found it ironic that this made news as if it is something special when this type of life is the norm for thousands of calves who are raised for veal.

he was trapped between hay bales and he came out 200 pounds lighter? That calf deserves to be veal.
