2. Yep.
He used to be on a show called "Almost Live!" here in Seattle, and I think he is a real scientist.

3. He is a real scientist
And we need more people like him. As long as scientists remain in the labs and do not convey the wonder of it we will see pseudo science creeping back into our society.

Carl Sagan was not just a great scientist. He was also a great ambasador for science. Bill Nye to a lesser degree filled that roll for a time. We need more.

4. Communicating science to lay people is no easy task.
I appreciate what Bill Nye does in that regard.

I'm a real scientist, and believe me you don't want to see me on Larry King doing an interview.

5. My kids loved Bill Nye the Science Guy
Oh no, ear worm!

Bill Nye the Science Guy...
Bill Nye the Science Guy...
Bill Nye the Science Guy...

Bill Nye is a good three or four notches above the typical Larry King viewer on the scientific scale, and a good notch or two above a curious five year old. Plus he's got an evolving ape on his homepage, which makes him okay in my book.

Anyways, he has a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Cornell, so he has better scientific credentials than the vast majority of talking heads, and certainly anyone in the Bush Administration.
