The Dying Furbabies of Nola *** Link to a New Action Alert *** (Graphic)
Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 01:09 AM by nicknameless
It's been nearly a month since Hurricane Katrina devastated NOLA. And yet, an estimated 90% of the stranded pets still haven't been rescued. They are suffering and dying.

If you can, please take action suggested in the OP at the link below.

2. Heartbreaking.
I think of them every day. Other than throwing money at it, I feel completely helpless.

Why doesn't somebody in our government give a shit?! Isn't there someone that would champion their cause before now?

Disgraceful, really.

5. With 50,000 pets at stake, it would have taken a govt.- lead evacuation.
No one has made this happen. Believe it or not, Senators Santorum and Ensign (both repugs) spearheaded one of the biggest efforts.
But Congress needs to get going on this.

The suggested action at the other thread (link in the OP) is to blast the media, and try to get them to tell the truth about what's been happening. Hopefully, that way we'd be able to shame the jerks in power into doing something.

The other thing you can do is call Congress. This issue isn't at all partisan. Right-wingers love their furbabies too.

It's so easy to feel discouraged. But then I look at the rescuers' websites and read their stories, and as confounding as it seems, they're still finding and rescuing live pets. That's the thing that really keeps me going.

In another thread, someone posted that cats can take care of themselves. I wish I could make that person look at these pictures.

9. Thank you for your very kind post, Robeson --
But if it weren't for caring hearts like yours, I'd just be ranting to myself.

Like a lot of people, I'm not getting much sleep, I can't think of anything else, and I can't get the knot in my stomach to go away.
Some people can go to NOLA and do the hands-on work. I wish I could. Posting on DU is one thing that I can do.

Thank you so much for your support and help with these threads

First thing I heard today is that there's more flooding in the 9th ward.
... Dear god, wake me up from this nightmare!
