Travel to Rio de Janeiro
I am planning a vacation the last week of November. I have always dreamed of traveling to Rio and seeing the beauty of the Brazilian land and people. I was shocked that the prices were less than I expected for a week of travel. However, I am somewhat concerned about violence in Rio. Or is that just media hype because they have a President that is left of center?

Any DU'ers who can share travel thoughts about Rio? Any places to see and places to avoid. As a gay tourist will I be safe in the Copabana and Ipanema beach areas?

Any helpful information or links would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks DU!
