Is there any GOOD news
Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 09:55 AM by auntAgonist
out there? .. Anywhere? I have been reading news online, busses exploding killing dear seniors, , suicide bombers crashing into another bus in Baghdad  The levee is leaking in New Orleans

please .. IS there ANY good news out there?

It's not that I don't care ... OR that I don't want to hear all then news, it's just that I'd like to hear something good from somewhere .. some hope, y'know?

2. my heart goes out to all of
those folks affected. It's dizzying (good word) for us, but cannot imagine how horrid it is for them. Those in the wake of war, or storms, it's just heartbreaking.

3. I've been looking for some good news for you.
Here's an item: U.S. global-warming naysayers are being criticized in the international science community . . .

http://today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=scienceNews&storyID=2005-09-23T031634Z_01_KWA304670_RTRUKOC_0_US-RITA-SCIENTIST.xml&archived=False

LONDON (Reuters) - A leading British scientist said on Friday the growing ferocity of hurricanes hitting the United States was very probably caused by global warming and criticized what he termed U.S. climate loonies over the issue.

Sir John Lawton, chairman of the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution which advises the government, made what the Independent newspaper said was a thinly disguised attack on the stance of U.S. President George W. Bush's administration.

"The increased intensity of these kinds of extreme storms is very likely to be due to global warming," Lawton told the newspaper in an interview.

"If this makes the climate loonies in the States realize we've got a problem, some good will come out of a truly awful situation," said Lawton.

kinda good news, them talking about Bush in a thinly disguised way :)

The world has HIS number! Too bad the folks who voted for him don't. OR didn't.

But.....

I am feeling happier today than in a long time.....

Does that count? And more importantly, does it help?

8. There is ALWAYS something good going on, IMO
It's all in how you look at it. In the midst of these dark times, we must remember to be grateful for the simple things we take for granted everyday....like simply waking up to another day. Being alive is a great gift!! Being a part of this wonderful community is another...

To me, Gratitude is the antidote to Despair.

My two cents,
Shine

10. oh don't get me wrong
I'm not in despair. I'm very grateful for ALL that I have. This has been an amazing year for me so far. I feel like I've been given a new lease on life. I am loved and I love.

I'm just sad that other people are having such hardship. I wish I could fix it all, but I know I can't. I do what I can though.

welcome to DU, Shine.
thanks for the 2 cents :)

Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 11:54 AM by Liberalynn
but boy there are sure a lot of generous donations from the private sector being given to help the victims of Katrina. Also there are seantors proposing bills to include pets and guide dogs in emergency planning so peope may not have to make a heart wrenching or potentially life threatening choice about whether or not to leave their pets behind in any future disaster.

Good things, even in these troubled times.

15. This just in, -
There is still in the world the sounds of rain walking barefoot through the tops of the trees, the sound of a 2 year-old laughing, the warm melody of a cat's pur.

The sun still rises in soft colour in the east, and sets in spectacular robe in the west.

If random acts of kindness don't make the news with the frequency of their antithesis, it makes them no less present. Daily acts of human kindness abound.

And if that isn't enough to cheer you up, some time back I watched an angry man leave the unemployment office. Curse soundly, kick his truck in frustration and then take out a pocket knife and scratch the Bush/Cheney sticker off his vehicle.

that is the most moving story I have ever read. That man saw the light that day and every day more are joining him, in seeing that light. My cousin who normally claims he is non political walked around our house the other day, mocking out George's attempt to walk like "John Wayne" and saying what an "idiot."

My Primary Care Doc asked us one day before the last election if we liked Bush and we said no, and she said that's good because she thought he was "Dumb as a Rock."

There is always HOPE!

DEMS ARE GOING TO KICK ASS IN 2006 AND FOREVER! :kick:

17. That jet landed the other day with the broken nose gear
and nobody got hurt.

Also, I don't have all that much pain today, either. So there are two pieces of good news, one important, the other trivial, but still two.

Feel better now?

19. Hey Redstone
that your feeling better is great news, and not trivial at all.

I also have two new little baby cousins. One boy and one girl born to two sisters (each other's sister, not mine) in my extended family . Both born healthy.

Also another of my cousins who I have always been very close too, has been sick for 3 months with a mystery illness. The good news is we found out it is NOT Cancer, HURRAY, and it is definitely curable. HURRAY. The Specialists they called in think he is going to have a full Recovery.

And that plane landing was nothing short of amazing.

Applause to the pilot.
