We're having a GIRL!
Mrs. Taverner did her Amnio yesterday and it turns out we, in addition to Tavernertoddler, are having a little girl. She shall be named Willow.

I was psyched because I always wanted a girl - however now I'm getting the nagging fear that it won't be all Barbie dolls and Shaun Cassidy posters...

I look out at all the shit that faces girls growing up today, and I get worried. The shit facing boys is a lot easier to deal with. Sure, you might get drafted and killed in a PNAC sponsored war, but not if you have refuge in Canada....

But all the shit that faces girls - this beauty mystique that faces them, the drive to be a white, blonde, princess - ACK! the whole "society saying it's ok to flaunt being a princess" in the first place shit!!!

ARGH! I'm going to give myself an ulcer here if I don't watch out.

AND WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH THIS SEXUALIZING TWEENS!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

4. Just don't buy her short-shorts when she is 10. Especially with writing
on them that says 'Hottie'.

As an aside my wife and I are going in for her sonogram to find out the sex of the TWINS next Friday. :) We hit the jackpot on them, wife is just 26 and no fertility drugs etc.. at least I finally beat the odds! :)

24. My daughter owned a pair w/ writing on them.
Her's said "SOCCER" and she wore them to her soccer practice every week. They were cute and a decent length but some of the others...

5. Don't let yours fall victim to it
Parents are STILL the most powerful force in a child's life...unless the parents surrender that role.

6. Wow, looks like your life took a nice upswing.
Since we last talked a few months back. I hope everything continues to go in a positive direction. If you need any girl tips, just let me know. Mine's 13 now and I'm knee deep in it all and it's not so bad. (I'm lucky though, my daughter is just as smart and strong as she is beautiful.)

7. Congratulations.
I'll toast Willow along with you and Mrs. Taverner just as soon as I can get a drink poured. :toast:

Although I don't speak from experience - I strongly suspect that the next 25 or so years of your life will be spent worrying about her, so for the moment at least relax and enjoy the idea that it might just turn out to be all Barbie dolls and Saun Cassidy posters....before reality hits.

16. Congrats and many blessings of Joy to you, Taverner!
Speaking from experience, being the parent of a daughter is a wonderful gift. You are in for a real treat. Willow is a lovely name, too.

Here's my humble two cents:
Don't get caught up in the FEAR (False Evidence Appearing Real)of what you don't know or can't control. TRUST that you will do fine if you keep your heart open and your intention clear. You will teach her well and will remind her that true Beauty comes from within, NOT without. In today's complex world, her name will serve her well in remembering to be grounded in what REALLY matters. May she be Wise, Flexible and Grace-full.

Blessings to you and your sweet family,
~Shine

As the father of a 2 1/2 year old daughter, I can sympathize with your outlook for your daughter.

But, you can also say that we're in the process of becoming a theocracy, so by the time your daughter is old enough to get sexualized, it will be because she shows a bit of ankle through her burka.

Congrats, and there is nothing better than raising a strong, progressive, positive, caring, determined young woman. (Even though she keeps taunting me that when she's gone to college she's going to do all the things I'm afraid she'll do.)
