2. Either BOS or PVD
It used to be quicker to drive all the way into Rhode Island than into Logan airport.

29. I've heard that Logan is a pain.
My parents want to go to Boston, but they would probably be scared to death to fly in to RI and drive into Boston.

What's the deal with Logan?

37. Logan is very close to downtown - a plus
It's a small very busy airport. Lines can be ridiculous at every point. Think SFO after a morning of fog and that's normal at Logan.

It has an antiquated terminal circulation system -- bad, although improving.

It is and it isn't connected by subway. If you're not from there, it is a mind-numbing process to figure out how to get out of the airport on the T. Coming back on the T is easy. For getting around Boston proper, the T is the way to go if you don't have mobility limitations.

Rental car locations and egress from the airport is better than it used to be. Boston drivers deserve their reputations. The streets aren't on a grid, and traffic circles aren't for novices.

Cabbies are strictly regulated until they leave airport property. Getting a cab is easy, getting to where you're going by the most direct route is a crapshoot. Downtown is a short fare although you'd never know with some of the drivers.

Logan has many coast-to-coast nonstops.

But hell, Boston is a fine city and worth the trip.

Less that an hour from Boston too.

39. Well, since you asked. Getting to and from Logan used to be a
really big pain in the balls. Now, thanks to the Big Dig, it's a hell of a lot easier, but a shitload more frustrating. Here's why.

The tunnel from the airport is two lanes, both same direction, and at one point it splits, the left side going to the Mass Pike, the right, to 93 N/S. I think, I could be wrong on this, but it's not the point.

Now, the majority of traffic is going towards the right lane option, and since it's a tunnel, there isn't room for screwing it up. So, a lot of people headed for the 93 exit (right) will jump in the 90 *Mass Pike* (left) lane and ride it out until the last possible moment. What they don't understand is that they, being Massholes, are surrounded by OTHER Massholes, who won't let them in the right lane - at the last moment. Like, a few feet away from where the walls split "last moment". So anyone trying to get to the Mass Pike *90* has to sit there, behind these assholes who expect someone to let them in the right lane, while looking at nothing but clear tunnel. For a good 30 minutes at times.

End Big Dig rant.

Before this, you had to basically hack your way through the jungle that is Boston city roads to get to the airport, where it was MUCH easier to simply get on a major highway and follow it down to Rhode Island and using the Airport's ( T.F. Green ) own dedicated exit. In other words, while the distance to get to RI is a hell of a lot longer, it used to be that driving to another state was faster than going to Logan.

That being said, I'd still recommend Providence, it's a nice little airport, better arranged than Logan.

MSP is a fine airport except for one glaring mistake. The passenger pick up area is one big exercise in frustration. Whoever designed that area was asleep at the switch big time. There needs to be another way to do it other than having everyone try to jam into a curbside pickup area. Totally insane. Ruins an otherwise fine airport.
