Don't flame me. I would think if one's bird got outside, one is not likely to get it back.

1. It's worth a try.
But the poor dear's probably long gone...unless it was...like a parrot or...vulture or...something more able to defend itself against the various perils of the outside world...

if it was yours, I'm terribly sorry. *pats*

4. Oh no.
Sweet little babies, but yes, it's probably gone. :(

'Tiels are more domesticated than almost any other pet bird (save budgies), and are extremely ill-equipped to survive in the wild -- excepting, of course, wild native Australian cockatiels. They are so light that they can fly a long ways in a headwind, even if properly clipped.

Damn. Now I'm thinking of my precious Entropy who died 4 years ago. She didn't get out -- it was a congenital kidney disorder -- still, my heart breaks for your neighbors. They're such sweet, wonderful creatures.

5. I am not a bird person myself, but I do thing "Tiels" are gorgeous
It is very sad.

Even if the bird survives now, winter is coming, and she has no chance here in Minny!

2. No.
Most pet birds' wings are kept clipped (don't worry, it doesn't hurt -- it's like cutting fingernails), and they can't fly very well. If they get out, they will likely get stuck in a tree.

Unless they are full-flighted, a bird will be VERY susceptible to predation. Sometimes a neigbor dog or cat will attack the bird, and the mammal's owner will be able to step in before the bird is lost. Prompt veterinary treatment can sometimes save the bird, and if a kindhearted soul saw the poster... voila!

Also, pet birds are generally imprinted upon humans at an early age. They will seek out human companionship if they are properly socialized to us; so they should be easily found. Really, the trick is, to find them before they get eaten. :(
