If you're addicted to DU, how do you go about taking a break? |
|
Seriously.
I need to take a break from DU for all the usual reasons, but I think I'm addicted. I don't have news, but a quick scan of LBN or GD will tell me what I need to know.
Also, I don't have any real life friends / family who aren't right-wingers and/or fundies, so I get lonely when I can't bash * with someone who understands the need.
Have you ever needed to take a break only to find you can't? What did you do?

It's addicting because DUers are smart, funny and kind. I'm not sure I can extract myself for awhile, but I need to.

|
I even found ways to post while I was in Beijing, Shanghai & Nanjing, China... went to the local library while in Florida, or in North Carolina on business.
And, I think this is my 9,000th post.

I don't go here enough to get an addiction. I know that in this board that can be considered blasphemy, so please don't send my town's population to burn me! Have them tar and feather me instead.

|
and I'm forced out for awhile. As a matter of fact, I have a new cpu that I've been trying to get up and running, I think though that this time I'm going to let the professionals do it. So, sometime wednesday I'll be going offline until Friday or Saturday, I'm not looking foreword to it, I can tell you that.

I am so freaking addicted that it's not funny.....
I'd have to be on my death bed to leave DU even for a day or two...
I have considered taking a break, but then I realized how much it would hurt....
And so I ended up not taking it.....

25. Learn to enjoy your life more. |
|
If your life isn't what you want it to be, take concrete steps to improve it.
DU can be great. There's a lot of smart, funny, interesting people here (heck go meet a few in person), but there's a big world out there waiting to be enjoyed as well. Carpe diem! :)

35. I tried, but the local peace group reminds me of A.N.S.W.E.R. |
|
The anti-war message got diluted by all kinds of other issues. I tried to attend a seminar series called "From Violence to Wholeness" and realized these "Democrats" were just the flip side of the right-wingers I knew. They seemed like dogmatic ideologues, berating me because I like the "violent" Lord of the Rings movies and play first-person shooters on my computer. I ended up feeling just as alone as I do among the right-wingers. I'm just not a good enough pacifist, I guess.
The folks who felt the same way I did ended up leaving the peace group. I talked to one of them at the local community college last week. He, too, was frustrated by all the side trips and believed that the peace group should have stuck with trying to end the war in Iraq instead of going off on all these tangents.

I try to avoid the Lounge when I don't want to post, for one. Also, I temporarily hide threads that are tempting. I'm able to read for a short time, but if I post, sometimes I get hooked.
I'll have to take breaks, but I won't announce any long ones unless I know for sure I'll be gone.
