Here is an oldie but a goody!!
http://www.basecamp.cnchost.com/marine.htm
From the Halls of Montezuma
To the Shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country's battles
In the air, on land and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title of
The United States Marines.

Our flag's unfurled to every breeze
From dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in ev'ry time and place
Where we could take a gun;
In the snow of far-off Northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes;
You will find us always on the job--
The United States Marines.

Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve
In many a strife we've fought for life
and never lost our nerve;
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes;
They will find the streets are guarded
By The United States Marines.

1. Not to forget the fly boys!
Off we go into the wild blue yonder,
Climbing high into the sun;
Here they come zooming to meet our thunder,
At 'em boys, Give 'er the gun! (Give 'er the gun now!)
Down we dive, spouting our flame from under,
Off with one helluva roar!
We live in fame or go down in flame. Hey!
Nothing'll stop the U.S. Air Force!

Additional verses:

Minds of men fashioned a crate of thunder,
Sent it high into the blue;
Hands of men blasted the world asunder;
How they lived God only knew! (God only knew then!)
Souls of men dreaming of skies to conquer
Gave us wings, ever to soar!
With scouts before And bombers galore. Hey!
Nothing'll stop the U.S. Air Force!

Bridge: "A Toast to the Host"

Here's a toast to the host
Of those who love the vastness of the sky,
To a friend we send a message of his brother men who fly.
We drink to those who gave their all of old,
Then down we roar to score the rainbow's pot of gold.
A toast to the host of men we boast, the U.S. Air Force!

Zoom!

Off we go into the wild sky yonder,
Keep the wings level and true;
If you'd live to be a grey-haired wonder
Keep the nose out of the blue! (Out of the blue, boy!)
Flying men, guarding the nation's border,
We'll be there, followed by more!
In echelon we carry on. Hey!
Nothing'll stop the U.S. Air Force!

I maintained avionics on the B-52.
The Brand name was the stratofortress.

2. Lets hear it for the Navy!
Words And Music: Capt. Alfred H. Miles U.S.N. and Charles A. Zimmerman (1907)

Anchors Aweigh, my boys, Anchors Aweigh.
Farewell to college joys, we sail at break of day-ay-ay-ay.
Through our last night on shore, drink to the foam,
Until we meet once more:
Here's wishing you a happy voyage home.

Stand, Navy, out to sea, Fight our battle cry;
We'll never change our course, So vicious foe steer shy-y-y-y.
Roll out the TNT, Anchors Aweigh.
Sail on to victory
And sink their bones to Davy Jones, hooray!

Stand Navy, down the field,
Sail set to the sky
We'll never change our course
So Army you steer shy-y-y-y

Roll up the score Navy
Anchors Aweigh
Sail, Navy, down the field,
And sink the Army, sink the Army gray.

3. GO Army!
Words and Music by Major Edmund L. Gruber - 1907

Over hill, over dale
As we hit the dusty trail,
And the Caissons go rolling along.
In and out, hear them shout,
Counter march and right about,
And the Caissons go rolling along.

Then it's hi! hi! hee!
In the field artillery,
Shout out your numbers loud and strong,
For where e'er you go,
You will always know
That the Caissons go rolling along.

In the storm, in the night,
Action left or action right
See those Caissons go rolling along
Limber front, limber rear,
Prepare to mount your cannoneer
And those Caissons go rolling along.

Then it's hi! hi! hee!
In the field artillery,
Shout out your numbers loud and strong,
For where e'er you go,
You will always know
That the Caissons go rolling along.

Was it high, was it low,
Where the hell did that one go?
As those Caissons go rolling along
Was it left, was it right,
Now we won't get home tonight
And those Caissons go rolling along.

Then it's hi! hi! hee!
In the field artillery,
Shout out your numbers loud and strong,
For where e'er you go,
You will always know
That the Caissons go rolling along.
That the Caissons go rolling along.
That the Caissons go rolling along.

Ballad of the Green Beret
http://www.niehs.nih.gov/kids/lyrics/greenberet.htm
Staff Sergeant Barry Sadler and Robin Moore,
copyright 1966

Fighting soldiers from the sky
Fearless men who jump and die
Men who mean just what they say
The brave men of the Green Beret

Silver wings upon their chest
These are men, America's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret

Trained to live off nature's land
Trained in combat, hand-to-hand
Men who fight by night and day
Courage peak from the Green Berets

Silver wings upon their chest
These are men, America's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret

Back at home a young wife waits
Her Green Beret has met his fate
He has died for those oppressed
Leaving her his last request

Put silver wings on my son's chest
Make him one of America's best
He'll be a man they'll test one day
Have him win the Green Beret.

10. Because God doesn't need the military
Edited on Sun Sep-25-05 03:03 PM by Rabrrrrrr
and certainly doesn't need them in Heaven. And to think that God, if God needed military security in heaven, would choose only the American military - that's fucking bogus pretentious bullshit, and the reason that we can never stop waging war. Nationalist triumphalism is always offensive.

Always.

And when it's done with Christian (or Taliban, or Al-Qaeda, same thing, in this case) overtones, it goes beyond offensive.

14. Look - it's a song. It has words.
And words are the only thing it has.

Obviously, it's the words that are pissing me off.

It's a patently offensive song, at least to those Christians who actually follow in and believe the teachings of Jesus, and have eschewed the old testament's portrayal of a warrior God, a vengeful God, a God of wrath and hellfire and destruction who acts through war and murder (and let me also point out that those Christians who choose this kind of God, haven't even done a good job of reading the old testament).

You say it's "only" picking up the feelings of that branch of the servive; but I say that THAT is entirely the problem - that it IS picking up the feelings of that branch of the service. Feelings that say that they are God's army, that they are ipso facto righteous and perfect in all that they do, that there is no need for self-critique or self-evaluation, and on and on and on.

Yes, it's offensive.

16. I don't expect them to equate themselves with God's holy army
Did you not read my first post?

God doesn't need an army. God doens't need the military. God doesn't need guys with guns defending the streets of Heaven.

It's disgusting, that song. And it could have been written in a non-disgusting way.

Get rid of the fascist-Chriso-centric bullshit, and it would be fine.

But as it is, this is no different than Al Qeada.

and don't care what I have to say. It's clear you don't care to listen, or to dialogue.

you think I'm wrong, even without listening to me, and I feel that you are wrong to support such a sacreligious blasphemous text.

So be it.

And I don't know what "lossy" means, but this is clearly a signifier that I am right that you, in fact, don't care to actually listen or read what I have to say, but instead insert your own agenda and intentionally misread and obfuscate my writings.

If you are not willing to dialogue, then I am not willing to continue.

This could be why you have such a hard time with math; or if not that, your responses are certainly consistent with that of someone who does poorly at math.

20. So then you aren't willing to listen.
That's fine. If it means that much to you, then have at it.

Enjoy it.

But this is one Christian American who will not sing it, nor applaud it, nor give it a "pass" just because some of those who are singing it are in combat, are dying, or are otherwise doing their duty.

When we deny the right to criticize something - which denial you have done - we have given up our freedoms and lain over for the oppressor to violate us in whatever way he or she wants.

If you think criticizing their song means that I criticize marines and/or hate them, that's fine. You are wrong, and you are following the logic of the freepers who think that to criticize Shrubbie McAWOL is to stand defiantly screaming "I HATE AMERICA I WANT TO LIVE IN IRAQ!".

But, you certainly have all rights to your opinion.

Those who are fighting and singing that song may look at what you are saying like a black person, walking down the street and you just called the religious song there listening to * Music.

22. I have no idea what you are talking about.
Clarity of thought, please. Your post I cannot decipher.

What does a civilian listening to religious music (I assume that's what you meant) have to do with me critiquing an agent of our government equating their warrior ways with God's will? I listen to and sing religious (Christian) music a lot. Should I hate myself?

And also please explain to me why it's relevant that my thoughts might be taken the wrong way. Who cares? They're certainly being taken the wrong way by you, but that's not my fault - I've been clear. It's your misreading of them and intentional refusal to try to understand that's clouding your vision.

Please read what I write, and not what you WISH I were writing.

8. Semper Paratus!
Semper Paratus (Always Ready)
The United States Coast Guard Theme Song

From North and South and East and West,
The Coast Guard's in the fight.
Destroying subs and landing troops,
The Axis feels our might.
For we're the first invaders,
On every fighting field.
Afloat, ashore, on men and Spars,
You'll find the Coast Guard shield.

We're always ready for the call,
We place our trust in Thee.
Through howling gale and shot and shell,
To win our victory.
"Semper Paratus" is our guide,
Our pledge, our motto, too.
We're "Always Ready," do or die!
Aye! Coast Guard, we fight for you.

From Aztec shore to Arctic zone,
To Europe and Far East.
The Flag is carried by our ships,
In times of war and peace.
And never have we struck it yet,
In spite of foe-men's might,
Who cheered our crews and cheered again,
For showing how to fight.

We're always ready for the call,
We place our trust in Thee.
Through howling gale and shot and shell,
To win our victory.
"Semper Paratus" is our guide,
Our pledge, our motto, too.
We're "Always Ready," do or die!
Aye! Coast Guard, we fight for you.

SURVEYOR and NARCISSUS,
The EAGLE and DISPATCH,
The HUDSON and the TAMPA
The names are hard to match;
From Barrow's shores to Paraguay,
Great Lakes or ocean's wave,
The Coast Guard fought through storms and winds
To punish or to save.

We're always ready for the call,
We place our trust in Thee.
Through howling gale and shot and shell,
To win our victory.
"Semper Paratus" is our guide,
Our pledge, our motto, too.
We're "Always Ready," do or die!
Aye! Coast Guard, we fight for you.

Aye, we've been "Always Ready"
To do, to fight, or die
Write glory to the shield we wear
In letters to the sky.
To sink the foe or save the maimed
Our mission and our pride
We'll carry on 'til Kingdom Come
Ideals for which we've died.

We're always ready for the call,
We place our trust in Thee.
Through howling gale and shot and shell,
To win our victory.
"Semper Paratus" is our guide,
Our pledge, our motto, too.
We're "Always Ready," do or die!
Aye! Coast Guard, we fight for you.

9. For a dash of trans-Atlantic friendship.
Britannia, the pride of the ocean,
The home of the brave and the free,
The shrine of the patriot's devotion,
No land can compare unto thee:
Thy mandates make heroes assemble,
With garlands of glory in view,
Thy banners make tyranny tremble,
When borne by the Red, White and Blue.

Refrain:
Three cheers for the Red, White and Blue,
Three cheers for the Red, White and Blue,
Three cheers for the Army and Navy,
Three cheers for the Red, White and Blue,

When war spread its wide desolation,
And threaten'd our land to deform,
The ark, then of freedom's foundation,
Britannia rode safe through the storm:
With the garlands of vict'ry around her,
So nobly she bore her brave crew,
Her flag floating proudly before her,
The flag of the Red, White and Blue.

Britannia, the pride of the ocean,
And so of a truth shall she be.
While true in her loyal devotion,
To all that is noble and free:
The fire that glows in her story,
Still burns in the hearts of her sons,
And her flag shall still lead her to glory,
When duty shall march with her guns.

Later plagarised as:

O, Columbia! the gem of the ocean,
The home of the brave and the free,
The shrine if each patriot's devotion,
A world offers homage to thee.
Thy mandates make heroes assemble
When Liberty's form stands in view;
Thy banners make tyranny tremble

When borne by the Red, White and Blue!
When borne by the Red, White and Blue!
When borne by the Red, White and Blue!
Thy banners make tyranny tremble
When borne by the Red, White and Blue!

The wine cup, the wine cup bring hither,
And fill you it true to the brim!
May the wreaths they have won never wither,
Nor the star of their glory grow dim!
May the service united ne'er sever,
But they to their colors prove true!
The Army and Navy forever,

Three cheers for the red, white and blue,
Three cheers for the red, white and blue,
Three cheers for the red, white and blue,
The Army and Navy forever,
Three cheers for the red, white and blue.

24. I hate fight songs
I hate school fight songs that are training for war fight songs. They glorify war and killing. There is SO nothing glorius about it, they have to PR it into glory and train kids in school to accept the PR WHICH IS BULLSHIT. :puke:

"Don't-Don't-Don't-Don't believe the hype." There's a lyric I can get behind.
