AN OBSERVATION AND A REQUEST |
|
...apologies for the caps -- I wanted attention...
As a fairly regular DU user, I just wanted to make this plea. I think we can all admit that things are pretty ugly sometimes on the board, regardless of sides.
What I am proposing is that people do a little more to support good, thoughtful posts here on the board. That is to say, when someone comes up with a interesting, thoughtful, insightful post, it is acknowledged more actively.
I've personally noticed that that sort of activity has become less frequent on DU recently. And as the primaries near, some of that is to be expected. That is fine. I am concerned that the lack of positive reinforcement in so many threads is pushing down the level of discourse on the board by discouraging thoughtful posts with little rewarding traffic. I know we all want to avoid that, because it means this community is suffering.
So, I forward that we react if something pisses us off and we need to express ourselves. I personally want nothing to do with repressing that. But when someone here on DU says something interesting, smart, painfully fair, or awkwardly passionate, let them know you appreciated it.
I hope you agree.

Don't bash a candidate/group/position without saying something positive about your favorite candidate, issue, group, position, etc.
