In case you missed this! The "Pro-War Rally" today drew a WHOPPING
400 people! I have to be mature in my response to this and say: NEENER, NEENER! Mandate, my ass :D

Also, as far as the counter protesters on Saturday, I can tell you honestly that the number who attended were only enough to line one city block single file. That is it. That was their designated area along the route and theire were fewer than 100 people there.

politics. All they could do was regurgitate Sean Hannity soundbites. One guy called me out to debate him, but since he didn't know Augusto Pinochet was also an evil dictator who killed his own people, the debate ended when he scored a knock out punch by calling me "crazy" - you KNOW that kind of logic always wins on the college debate teams!

I jumped the fence and picked up a "Let's Go Free Republic" sign and started chanting "Blood for Oil" "Blood for Oil" and "FOUR MORE WARS" "FOUR MORE WARS"

Okay, okay - maybe not. But I was impressed by his rapier like wit. :silly:

6. How strange
I don't think they're in favor of the occupation of Iraq as much as they're anti-Cindy Sheehan and anyone who points out the murderous folly of it all.

It's so odd to find people who would probably describe themselves as good Christians attempting to degrade people who are preaching peace and truth.

But, it's freedom of speech, and I say it's great.

9. I completely agree! One guy on Saturday was preaching the
"Good Word" and telling us we needed to repent because we were all going to hell. I thought that was really odd considering we were there to protest violence and, to my knowledge, Jesus was also a pacifist. It was really rather sad to see someone distort religion in such a manner.

Although it was kinda cute that one man was holding a sign that read "Right Wing Wingnut Exhibit" just before we got to the block where the counter-protestors were allowed to stand. :D

12. That Good Word guy,
or his clone, is always around downtown. He preaches at me for walking past and tells everyone they're condemned to eternal damnation.

They're not pro-religion, they're not pro-anything. They're anti-people like us. They are, though, propelled by something that lives on the edge of madness - a whole lot of anger there. I really suspect they've all been abused as children.

He's not nearly as much fun, though, as the guy over by the Air and Space Museum who screams as you walk towards him. He looks just like Jesus, and he can yodel.

I saw a great guy on C-Span at the rally - he was wearing an orange prison jumpsuit, carrying a big sign that said "Republican chicks won't date me."

I love my D.C. home.

Here are a couple of other good signs:

"Ask not what you can do for your country, ask what your country is doing."

"My son used to be an embryo, please don't send him to Iraq."

"sad"

"Bush says it was faulty intelligence - NO SHIT"

There were soooo many good ones, but those are the ones that I can recall.

11. this allows for a corrected "approval rating"
Let's give yesterday's march a conservative estimate of 200,000 people (in my opinion, it was probably more than that, but anyway it was a hell of a lot of people).

And so today's "pro-war" activity drew 400.

Now let's take these numbers and treat them as a sample of opinions.

By my math, that works out to be slightly less than .2% approving of the occupation, and therefore a 99.8% disapproval rating for our Chimperor.

How's that for a mandate?

25. I don't get this:
Our troops are over there fighting for our rights, and if she was in one of those countries she would not be able to do that," Vigna said.

So, they're fighting for Americans rights, so you shouldn't use those rights.

Ditto this:
"No matter what your ideals are, our sons and daughters are fighting for our freedom," said Marilyn Faatz, who drove from New Jersey to attend the rally. "We are making a mockery out of this. And we need to stand united, but we are not."

Yeah, stop making a mockery of your freedoms by using them!

According to Republicans, you can't dissent while important events are occurring, even if you have doubts about the wisdom of the government's choices. In other words, dissent is only okay when we're all in agreement or when nothing big is going on. Freeper Logic 101.
