Anything growing or fruiting in your area at this time of year |
|
that shouldn't be? We have a grape vine that is producing a second small crop of grapes when it's never done so in the past, and this spring's watermelon vines keep blooming and producing small fruits (that a resident armadillo keeps whacking open). Normally, I would pay this little mind, but I just talked to my mom up in Minnesota who says that her lilacs and magnolia are starting to bloom again!!! Add in the fact that it reached 108 degrees here today in central Texas where we thankfully missed any nasty effects from Rita, and I'm getting a tad alarmed. Is anything a bit awry with your weather/growing season?

1. Grape harvest here in the Napa Valley is really late |
|
I'm still seeing white grapes on the vine. They are usually harvested mid-August to early September. One of my clients doesn't expect to harvest his cabernet until the end of October--unheard of. Frost got most of my veggies in the beginning so now all are late. Tomatoes did diddly squat, but the peppers are just coming into their own.
My roses did diddly this year and the water lilies quit early.
