Poll question: Have you ever dreamed of those who have passed on? |
|
If so, is it pleasant or disturbing? Inquiring minds want to know!

7. The reason I asked is... |
|
last night I "saw" my Brother we lost several years ago. I don't know how he "communicated" with me, but I felt he was telling me he had not been hurt and could never be hurt. It was somehow comforting.

2. Yes. Sometimes it's comforting |
|
(like when my mom visits) and sometimes it's disturbing (when it's my best friend from high school who turned out to be a pathological liar and a sociopath)

|
All those I've had with Family members have been pleasant and most of the others.

I used to dream about my mom a lot and that was both pleasant and disturbing. Pleasant because the dreams themselves were so ordinary and comfortable - disturbing because I'd wake up to the realization that it wasn't real.
I still dream about dead friends (I have far more dead friends than I do live ones), relatives and even pets. Sometimes it's just really nice - other times it's bittersweet.

6. Hello to my dear BikeWriter..... |
|
I have not dreamed such dreams...
But my husband has.....Both his parents and his brother are gone now..
It seems to me that his dreams are not unpleasant...he's just around them, and they are doing stuff together.....
No nightmares for him, AFAIK.....

In fact, invariably in the dream, I'll think, "Well, hell, she's had breast cancer for such a long time, I guess the chemo is keeping it all at bay, because she's still alive." In fact, she died 17 years ago.

|
The dreams vary quite a bit. Some are pleasant. Some are disturbing. Unfortunately even when I wake up from the ones that are pleasant, I feel sad because I remember that he is dead.

|
And the dreams are actually very pleasant, kind of a medium in which my subconscious or whatever the hell has the opportunity to integrate reality with the ideal it held out. I love those dreams. I can't help but feel like something lives on in them.

I wake up missing her acutely, but it's nice to be able to "see" her at all. I've dreamed about my dad a couple of times, with the same feeling, and my sister only once (strangely).

They are usually in strange locations which I can't identify; sometimes she just calls out my name. I've also had dreams about my former pets.
These dreams are not disturbing, just strange.

26. Disturbing, but the loss is recent |
|
I dream quite often about my father who died 2 months ago. Unfortunately, in the dreams he is the last stages of his life when he was so sick and in so much pain. I think it might be my subconscious trying to remind me that it's better that he's not suffering.
I do believe that as I begin to better accept his death that I'll remember him during our normal happy times.

29. I was very close to my grandmother. |
|
She died 10 years ago and I have had dreams about her that are so real that I wake up crying and feeling her in the room and around me for a really long time through the day.
The only reason I classify them as disturbing is because I miss her so very much that they upset me. The dreams themselves are not disturbing. It was the hardest loss to date in my life.

32. I frequently dream of my mother, dead for over 30 years. |
|
In my dreams, she has neither aged nor changed one whit. I, OTOH, have aged, grown, changed - and my mother can't understand why I don't cower and do her bidding.

35. I have very vivid dreams of my Mom |
|
She passed away 2 years ago. She holds me in my dreams..they are so real. I could swear she was communicating with me. I suppose someone could say its just wishful thinking but....the dreams are so darn REAL. when I wake up I can remember the softness of what she was wearing and remember what she felt like. I've only had those particular dreams probably less than a handful of times. In fact, the last one was just last week.
It is very pleasant and comforting.
