anyone can beat me at chess . . . I don't have the patience to look several moves ahead, and I'm forever making dumb mistakes that inevitably lose the game for me . . . I even lose to kids I teach how to play! . . .

I play alot... and I am always focused on countering possible attacks, but I do take openings when they are very promising. Chess is great, ain't it?

5. Aggressive. Because, I have more fun playing in that manner. |
|
I can play a balanced game or a defensive game, but I prefer to get on the offensive and stay on the offensive.
Note, my aggressive style stops short of opening gambits against an equally matched player.

11. Aggressive: I Develop My Pieces, Avoid Exchanges, |
|
and go for complications in the middle game, betting that my opponent will get more confused than me.
I played a LOT in 9th and 10th grades. Then I fell out with my best friend, who played first board on the chess team, and gradually lost interest.

12. I'm both too agressive and too defensive |
|
therefore I always lose at chess. I'm either too busy trying to second guess my opponent, or I'm so busy playing defense that I neglect to mount an offensive. I always lose at chess, even though I've been playing since I was five years old. I just never learned to strike the proper balance between offense and defense.

13. What about "shitty"? Where's that option? |
|
Edited on Fri Nov-14-03 12:37 AM by Rabrrrrrr
I don't know if I'm agressive or defensive, because I suck.
Which is really funny, considering my intelligence, ability to focus, and skill at other games and mind-based things. I can beat poor players (like my niece and other children), but that's about it.
Give me Go - that game I can handle.
Chess? Fuhgeddaboutit.
I like to play it though.

14. Balanced. Whenever I'm in the mood, I'll be either. |
|
I'm pretty flexible. Whenever I've got some caffeine in me while playing, I tend to be aggressive to a fault.

21. Up to 4 players can play at the same time. |
|
Imagine a middle game of chess with four players and no blocked end-game at all. And you introduce the pieces as you go along rather than having them all on the board at the start. Oh, and the suicide bomber piece can kill up to 8 or sometimes more pieces in one single capture. It's hot. Trust me. Click Here To See Fair & Balanced Buttons, Stickers & Magnets

of Mitsubishi america in a past life and champion of my old scout troop... i got bored with the game... never liked playing with clocks... preferring "gentlemens chess" where if someone makes a dumb move, i let them take it back, as i want a good game.
I think multiplayer command and conquor is far more interesting these days... much more dynamic and strategic. Figure chess is an early video game... primitive and static. The new strategic games where peices have entire strategies built in entirely eclipse the old stuff in my mind. I don't even have a chess board anymore...

24. an advancing defensive formation |
|
I create a rather elaborate defense and then push it forward a couple squares at a time until it traps my opponent forcing them to wreck themselves on my defesne and sweep in from the wings to declare checkmate

25. It depends on who I'm playing. |
|
I tend to adjust to the skill level of my opponent. I'll be especially aggressive to a less experienced player, but to a formidable opponent I'll give proper respect: develop my pieces, control the center, open attacking lines.

I had a lot of natural talent. We had chess matches with other high schools and no one could beat me. Then my regular opponent started studying chess in books and I had to study to catch up with him.
Now I have found a greater challenge--political organizing. It is hard to believe that an introverted nerd like me is so good with people 25 years later. It all depends upon where your heart is.

27. other: short-sighted, clueless player. |
|
At 43, I've given up on getting any better. I teach my class to play. Just pieces, moves, general rules. I can't teach them strategy. Both my sons could beat me by the time they were 8 or 9. These days they don't play with me; it's a useless exercise. I play myself on the computer, quite happily, because I can pick an opponent as bad as I am. I do like to watch my sons play each other, though. Any time they're both visiting at the same time, the chess set comes out and I watch from the sidelines.
