For 1970's roller skating nostalgia- go see Roll Bounce !
Yes, I'm 33 years old, but this film brought back old, fond memories of my childhood. I grew up in the height of the rolling skating era, the skates with 4 wheels- side by side, the socks, the couple skate. It had a story, fashion and all the cool tunes from back then. For a minute, I thought I was back in the 70's.

Did anyone else see it ? I had a good time, and will probably go again !

3. We had a local skate place called The Axle.
Our neighbor played the organ there on nights they weren't cranking tunes.

4. I had a pair of Roller Derby rollerskates.
White boots w/ hot pink wheels. I used to go to Red's every chance I could to cyclone skate. If there wasn't any money to go skating I would race the neighbor kids in the street.
When we moved to another state I was so happy to see a skating rink. I loved skating and went as often as I could afford to. I missed home and skating helped me fit in.

6. I never got very good at it
I couldn't cross, and I could barely skate backwards, but it's still one of my favorite memories as a kid.

The funny thing is trying to skate now. The old bicycle addage doesn't hold up. And the next day, my legs are really sore now. Go figure.

18. I could do all that.
I could also do tricks on skates and even dance. I was pretty good.
I'm supposed to take my daughter's Girl Scout troop soon. I'm going to fall on my ass-I just know it.

10. I want to play roller derby.
I recently looked into it and got excited. There are 2 teams here in CA and I am too far from either.

17. YUP! Same Reds!
I skated there many many times.

Moved away in the late 80's, and I was sad to see it boarded up last time I visited.

19. How old are you?
I moved in 1985 to Missouri. I heard that it was all boarded up.
I loved that place.

5. We had 3 skating rinks at the height
Family Skate Center- which was on my side of town-the so-called "Black side", Skate Odyssey, located in the middle of town that everyone went to, and Skate Haven, which was at the City limits and was deemed as being on the "White" side of town. It was kind of like it was in the movie.

Family Skate was off the hook, and was always live, until the floor cracked several times, and the building was in disrepair. Then we went to Skate Odyssey. Only on special occasions, did we ever go to Skate Haven, because my mom always said it was "too far out".

Funny, now we live near Skate Haven, and it is the only one out of the 3 still in existence.

7. oh yes, we used to skate at the Ballaure on Mystic Ave in Medford Ma.
i still have my skates with the neon blue crypto wheels with the matching laces of course. Saturday night was Funk night and the best night to skate there imo, reverse backwards all skate was the best part of the night.

8. I am 32 now
and got my first pair of metal over the shoe skates when I was 7.

I went skating all the time at our two local roller rinks. One was Disco Wheels, but then disco sucked so it was renamed Dancing Wheels. And the other rink was Fleetwood.

I always rented the ugly brown skates and was envious of the white skates. When I was about 9 my aunt bought me a pair of gymshoe rollerskates, blue suade with white stripes on the sides. But I quickly grew out of them and was back to renting.

I fell in love with the rollerblade skate and have been on them for over 15 years.

I want to go see the movie. It is a rainy day here, it would be a great day to take in a fun nostalgic movie.

We need a rollerskating smilie. Anybody got one?

11. I roller boogied my ass off.....hip hop hip hip hop and ya don't stop....
....Rapper's Delite was THE song played at the rink I went to...I could skate forwards..backwards...do 50MPH either direction and DANCE all at the same time....tried to go skatin' a couple years ago and it's true what sayin' says...if you don't use it...you most definitely lose it...busted my hump before I made it around the rink ONCE...and the floor is in much better shape than it was when I was a kid....BUT I do believe they're using the exact same skates that were there 25 years ago...I swear they've not gotten new ones since back in the day...maybe if I'd had some decent skates I could still style and profile like I did way back when...that's my excuse and I'm stickin' to it! :D
