Going into the hospital tomorow
having the same procedure Condi had - a uterine artery embolization - they basically shoot little plastic balls into the uterine artery to clog it up and kill any nasty fibroid(s) that are growing there.
Don't like her politics, but I figure they need her up and running quickly, so she's going to get the most up-to-date procedure that's available.

It's fairly benign stuff but I'm a little nervous!

Hope to be back on the board by Monday!

5. Thanks!
I've got a big pile of library books, and the place is nice and clean (takes a lot of pressure off right there)

2. Good luck with your surgery!
I'm always nervous before stuff like that - perfectly natural. I'm sure you'll be fine, though.

9. Thanks for the concern
I think all the women I know over 40 either:
suspect they have fibroids
have fibroids
had fibroids and did something to get rid of them!

6. Any time you have general anesthesia, there is cause for concern........
But having said that, the doctors are very competent...and I believe this surgery doesn't take very long....

I am sure you will be fine...and then the damn bleeding will STOP!

You take care, and come home to us as soon as you can!

10. Sounds like the voice of experience
As happens with these damned things, I could beat Steven King in the horror category as far as horrible tales of gore and blood go!!!

I'm more afraid of the paind of the IV then anything else!

15. Well, yes, I am a voice of experience....
As a newly retired RN, and as a woman who suffered for a year with fibroids.....

NOTHING like working nights in CCU, bleeding, full up with all the possible sanitary products, unable to get out to the BR....you get the pic......

I decided to go for the hysterectomy and oophorectomy...and my MD agreed...smartest thing (up to that point, anyhow) that I'd done...

An expert nurse should have no problem inserting one IV into your hand...try to relax, and think of something really nice....

Like how GOOD you'll feel when this is all over!

My thoughts and prayers are going with you tomorrow......

20. Thanks JJ - I'll be at Jeff
which is a shame, because they positively coddled me at Hannahmann when I was in for another procedure on the damned things in April.

Thanks for the good thoughts! Sorry I missed the DelVal roadtrip this weekend, but we had a fundraiser and were able to extort $1100 out of our friends for the Red Cross,

26. Good luck with your procedure
I know how it is to be afraid of needles too. I hate needles. I haven't minded IVs for procedures too much though because you always have to go a long time without eating or drinking before hand. For the three procudres that I have had, I have felt so dehydrated when I come in that the IV with fluids is a bit of a relief even though I hate needles.
