Anyone catch 'No Direction Home, Part 1' on PBS last night? |
|
The film clip of John Jacob Niles just blew me away. I've never heard anything like that in my life. http://www.john-jacob-niles.com/

1. Yes and it made me want to run away from home and live in black and white |

and smoke all the time and be a quiet, furious, little genius living in a tiny box near other lunatics.
The whole thing did, not just one part of it.
Good luck, me.

2. I'm making a note to myself. |
|
1. Smoke more. (This should not be a problem.)
2. Live near lunatics. (Not too difficult. All of my friends are lunatics and/or artists. I just have to get them living in closer proximity to me.)
3. B&W World. (I think if I just toss the TV out the window, I'd be halfway there.)
Simple. It's not as difficult as it seems.

|
in the whole plan for me. ;)

I was blown away by almost all of the rare clips. Just for the film footage of Woody Guthrie I was amazed. And who would have thought color film existed of Hibbing in 1950?
Dave Van Ronk was one of a kind too. He is missed. Loved seeing the Odetta footage (I got to see her live 4 years ago at a Woody Guthrie tribute in Seattle at the Experience Music Project), the Howlin' Wolf footage, the Mavis Staples commentary, and of course, Dylan himself doing new commentary.
Can't wait for tonight. Anyone who denies Dylan's genius after this has blinders on and earplugs in.

10. I also was amazed by all the old footage. Scorsese did a masterful |
|
job of compiling all of these clips. Do you buy Dylan's feigned befuddlement at the "genius" others assign to his work? So many of his songs are profound but he always denys that was his intent. It's an act, right?

12. I watched about a half hour |
|
There is no doubt I am getting the DVD so I didn't want to watch a cut up and censored version before I got to watch my own DVD of it.
I can never get enough of that folk/Americana music. I will take this kind of music over anything else ever recorded.
