NFL Clock error helped Patriots beat Steelers
This should be good -

PITTSBURGH (AP) - A clock error added 52 seconds to the fourth quarter of the Patriots-Steelers game Sunday. The extra time aided the Patriots during a winning drive that ended with Adam Vinatieri's 43-yard field goal with 1 second remaining.

(snip)
The NFL acknowledged the mistake Monday, with director of officiating Mike Pereira issuing a statement: "The on-field officiating crew, which oversees the official game clock operated in the press box, failed to recognize that the clock was improperly reset."

(snip)
The mistake occurred after the second play of the fourth quarter, a reverse by Steelers wide receiver Cedrick Wilson for no gain on second-and-10 from the Pittsburgh 30 with the Steelers ahead 13-10.

There were 14 minutes, 51 seconds remaining when the play started and, by the time, a false start penalty was called on Steelers guard Kendall Simmons, the Heinz Field clock had run down to 13:59.

But before the next play started, the clock reverted back to 14:51 - the time left before the Wilson run. Ben Roethlisberger's incompletion on third-and-15 lasted 14 seconds and Chris Gardocki's 51-yard punt took up 10 seconds, meaning the Patriots got the ball back with 14:19 remaining in the game rather than 13:27 if the error hadn't occurred.

1. Patriots would have won in any event.
A major mistake was letting Patriot QB Tom Brady complete every pass he threw in the fourth quarter.

(Psst)They often let the clock click off extra seconds when no one is looking.

4. Good point about letting THEIR guy play so well
oh the lateral thing had no impact on the final score I am sure.

psst-check out where the pitcher's foot is this time of year with respect to the pitching rubber....they never call that either.

2. What? The Steelers didn't get the extra 52 seconds too?
When it snows, it snows on both sides of the field.

3. Oh brother
I wonder if I can tune into some sports radio here at work so I can listen in on this well informed and deliberative discussion amongst that crowd.

:eyes:

I actually listened to some sports radio a few weeks ago. Who knew Vick was so overrated? and the Tomlinson was the best player EVER? (this was a fantasy football show-did you know that whether your player wins or loses the game has no bearing on his performance?)

5. Horrible pass defense
horrible O-line play, and too conservative play calling sunk the Steelers, not a clock.

9. Here's how to win: SCORE MORE POINTS!
There will always be officiating and timekeeping screwups. There always have been. It ain't going away. The solution is score more points.

10. If this happened at the very end, I'd say Steeler fans would have a gripe
but there was almost a whole quarter left when it happened. Both teams had a chance.

If there is something the NFL needs to fix, it's the overtime rules. College OT rules are way better than sudden death.
