Todays lesson from Matthew 5. Maybe the Bible had something in mind about separation of church and state before it was ever an issue. So, I wonder how the act of swearing on a bible, which is really an overt act against the bible, continues to go on.

34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:
37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

I really shouldn't be doing bible lessons, because I don't believe anymore, but, after watching Commander in Chief it just reminded me.

:)

2. I've noticed that many
of the biggest self-proclaimed "Christians" actually seem to have no inclination to follow the writings therein.

4. I think that is true of most religions.
I haven't really found anything about Christianity to set it apart as being the one "right" religion as opposed to any other. It all seems to be an "us vs. them" thing to me, except for Buddhism.

5. The "my God RULEZ" syndrome.
Which is the main reason I find all organized religion to be not to my liking.

Faith is one thing, acting on the word (and a twisted interpretation)of a book is quite another.

6. I agree.
And I don't find that mentality only true with religion. It is in workplaces, political parties, hell, even in fandom of sports teams.

I see a lot of the perceptions of people being that they are better than the others, not admitting the faults or shortcomings of their particular religion, etc. Also, I see it in persecution complexes, their thought that every other religion is out to get them, and it is more difficult to be what they are than something else.

7. And what I find so awful and nauseating, is that the Super Christians,
who claim to be so perfect and pious, BUT who follow the Old Testament far more than they follow anything Jesus said, ARE ALSO the same insane assholes who will proclaim allegience to a FLAG - a fucking FLAG, for fuck's sake - and insist on including "under God" WHILE they're committing blasphemy by pledging allegiance to that flag; and then they'll sing the national anthem AND "God Bless America" and not realize that they have just violated the most sacred of Old Testament laws.

Hypocritical, unthinking, useless stupid ignorant asshole fucks.

10. Well, I'll give 'em that!
Of course, if they're gonna hate homosexuals, they better stop eating pork. Either follow the law or don't, but don't flip flop on it, assholes!

p.s. - and, Super Christians, if you do finally decide to stop being hypocrites, um, make sure to pass those recipes on to those of us who will continue to need them...

Have not got past Leviticus.

11. Many Christians will not swear on the Bible and they aren't forced to do
so in Court. They do have to "affirm" their answers are truthful.

A case against the pledge of allegiance can also be made based on the quotes you provided.

14. How's about that coveting thing...
Right there it says thou shalt not covet thy neighbors things....

So, if we do not covet, where does that leave modern consumer oriented capitalism....

I think when jesus said there are but two commandments, love thy neighbor and have only on god before thee, or something like that, he meant that all else flows from those two statement....

One god cuts down on the worship time so that frees up time to operate in the real world...

And the neighbor thing, well that just calls for stability.... Tow things that make for a good western civilization....

15. Yeah, and the "camel would surely fit through the eye of a needle before
a rich man would enter the kingdom of heaven" thing.

Many also seem to jump on the back of gays/lesbians. In one verse that condemns "sodimites", it first condemns adulterers and fornicators. They seem to forget the adulterers and fornicators. And, if you read a little more into it, Jesus says you committ adultery if you get remarried, and cause another to committ adultery of they remarry you. One avidly baptist and gay bashing guy I used to work with had a child out of wedlock, but eventually married the lady who had his child. But, it is also his second marriage. He should have done a little more reading of his bible into stuff that applies to him, rather than bashing other people.
