What is cheaper? Installing a new door lock? Or getting locksmith |
|
to make a new key for a door?
We have a door that has a different lock than the rest, and the key was lost by the former owners. Which is a better choice?
Jack_Dawson's thread reminded me that I needed to do this.

1. Cheapest would be to take the lock with you to a locksmith... |
|
to have a new key made. But I would just replace the cylinder with a new one.

2. replace the cylinder, especially if security is an issue |

who knows how many other keys are out there?
Of course, any of today's Yales or its competitors pose no hardship for any serious, well-trained criminal. in fact, you can personally purchase a lockpick set, with a video which teaches you how to use it. They even sell lockpick "guns" which feel out the tumblers automatically, and do it in seconds, not minutes with the old fashioned way. Oh, and DO NOT store an extra key under a stone. it is the first place seasoned criminals and inquisitive feds look.
