Unfortunately, I remember most of these.. I did not verify any of the answers that are below but they sound correct to me.

I couldn't remember his name at all though I could visualize the character.

American Pie was not the name of the airplane.

Also, splitting hairs, but I think of the day the music died as being the death of all three men, Ritchie Valens, J.P Richardson ( The Big Bopper), and Buddy Holly. But MR. Mclean may disagree with me. :-)

however, 13 is highly debatable.... Don has refused to ever explain that song and it's meaning. Lots of people think it's about Buddy Holly, Don won't confirm it....
