Erotic chat grounds for divorce?
Erotic chat grounds for divorce?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050928/od_nm/belgium_adultery_dc

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Erotic talk with a virtual partner in chatrooms on the Internet are enough grounds for a spouse to file for divorce, a legal magazine said Wednesday, citing a recent ruling in Belgium.

Belgian legal publication De Juristenkrant said the Brussels Appeals Court ruled that although transcripts of the erotic chatroom conversation do not prove adultery, they do constitute proof of "grossly insulting behavior" which is sufficient grounds to file for divorce.

2. Honestly...
If you don't want to be married anymore, isn't that enough grounds for divorce? So if your spouse having "erotic chat" with someone crosses that line for you, then you should stop being married. Right?

10. On-line infidelity is annoying but hardly grounds for divorce.
Edited on Wed Sep-28-05 02:49 PM by Joan_Alpern
Warm arms are preferable to a cold computer screen.

The problem isn't the erotic talk with a virtual partner in a chat-room. It's a breakdown of the marriage before the chat.

That's just my way of looking at it.

First - let me say how much I like your name!

Second - I'd like to point out that sometimes erotic chat with a stranger can add spice to the married relationship.

Third - to DU

24. I really appreciate your point
Not *all* "infidelity" is necessarily bad for a relationship. I find it kind of annoying the way society has such rigidly defined ideas of what is allowable in a marriage.

28. Thank you.
There are far too many marriages that are falling apart, the old sets of values don't seem to mesh with today.

We should to be able to assess what fits our needs to be happy and healthy and act on that. Some of us march to a different drummer and we're okay with that. Our neighbors might not agree but it really in none of their concern. What goes on within the home should be entirely up to the people who are involved.

37. Well, what it sounds like to me
Is that the people who are using this as grounds for divorce are NOT okay with it.

As far as I'm concerned, you shouldn't need "grounds" for divorce. If you no longer want to be married to a person, you should be able to divorce them. This is why I'm not married and why I won't be - because I see no reason the state should have any say whatsoever in my relationships. Who are they to decide whether or not I can divorce?

There are many different ways to view the same set of variables. Relationships are changing. It's really about what is acceptable behavior to everyone involved.

18. But it is emotionally cheating IMO. Sure, there
was probably some sort of break down in the marriage that occured prior. But it can cause some trust issues and that is the basis of a marriage (that and love).

20. For me - it is impossible to love someone that I can't trust.
I usually do trust people until I'm given a reason not to. I believe that honesty is paramount in any healthy relationship.

this is not good

you must be stressing out to the max ...

take it one problem at a time - you can fill out applications while you rest your sprained ankle ...

how long has it been since you've spoken with your horny friend - BTW - I don't answer the phone either if I'm getting laid ...

you can't keep your cats - I'm sorry - isn't there any way to work it out ?
