10. Bonnie? That was shortly after we adopted her
she came from a shelter in the U.P. where it was about 1 degree with a foot and a half of snow and two weeks later she was running wild on the beach in the San Juan Islands - she clearly was happy about her change in fortune.

Gordie was adopted from a shelter in Wyoming, which is why he has a cowboy hat.

8. Ruby had chronic renal failure.
She was only 6 when she passed. But she had a really good life and brought us a lot of happiness. We do miss her

again, I'm so sorry. I'll go find a picture of Z.

12. Here's a couple:
One of my big boy:

I think that this girl is particularly cute, as well. She looks sad, though. Could be that short-ass chain she's on...

16. He's a Great Dane and ?
Probably pointer, or something. A tiny bit of a mix there. I adopted him from the humane society while I was volunteering. I've always had Danes, and I refuse to buy one. So I waited for one to come in.

He's the best thing that's ever happened to me.

Your girl is too. She is fully pouting in that shot. You can see her bottom lip sticking out.

I had one of the same. Buffett, black lab, always looked as he had eaten a bad taco. This is a picture of him really, really happy.

22. Thanks. I think that her love of swimming kept her going for a while
she swam right up to the end. She just loved it. The dogs I have now won't swim. We take them in the water and put them in where it's a little deep and they paddle frantically and then scoot for shore.

23. I hear you.
Ruby was obsessed with her frisbee, even at the end when she was really sick. We spent so many happy evenings playing. So I thought I would enjoy playing with my new dog Sam. Nothing doing. Not only will he not retrieve, but he is actually afraid of the frisbee and goes to hide under the shed when I try to throw it for him. I guess they all have their own likes and dislikes.

24. Yes, Gordie an d Bonnie need to learn how to play
we adopted them both when they were a bit older. We had Zelda (and her brother Scott, who died in 2001) as puppies and they both played. They would fetch things together - starting with a tennis ball - and then when they started swimming, they would come back with the same stick! Scott wasn't quite so intrepid as Zelda. She would go out farther for the stick and he would wait till she got closer, then latch on.

Did you adopt Sam as a puppy?

25. No, I got both Sam and Ruby as adults,
both through Border Collie Rescue. Sam is not pure, but they fostered him anyway.

Ruby was an abused working dog before she came to rescue. So I guess after all that work, she was ready to play. Somewhere along the line, she learned to chase a disk, and that is all she really wanted to do.

I know less about Sam's background. The rescue picked him up out of a particularly nasty kill shelter in a rural part of the state. And you are right, he doesn't know how to play. We are working on it, though :)
