Behold, the Plaid Adder Mardi Gras mask!
Edited on Thu Sep-29-05 05:58 PM by Plaid Adder
As many of you know, Generic Other is organizing an auction to help DUers who have been wiped out by Hurricane Katrina. (Well, someone's got to.) Her idea was to have DUers make Mardi Gras masks and then auction them off. As I understand it, most of the people doing this have some artistic talent. I have very little, myself, and I also am not sure I know what a Mardi Gras mask is supposed to look like; but I had a great time building this thing anyway. It's called "Don't Tread On Me," and here's a picture of it:

Generic Other asked us to compose little statements explaining the 'concept' behind our masks, and this is what I came up with:

"This mask is entitled 'Don't Tread On Me.' As far as concept goes, all I can tell you is I went into it thinking two things: "snakes" and "plaid." Later I decided to incorporate the two triangles at either side (pink on the right temple, lavender on the left) to represent GBLT identity. If you want to be deep about it, you can look at the mask as the concrete materialization of the Plaid Adder persona: way too loud for everyday wear and a little rough around the edges."

I want to thank Generic Other for organizing this; I had a great time making this thing, whatever the results may indicate. I hope other people will post pics of their masks as they have them; I'm looking forward to seeing what the good ones look like!

4. Yes, that is me inside.
You can't really tell because the mask is too small for my head so I can't actually put my face into it, which makes the eyeholes look dark. Anyway.

I intend to come back at some point on an occasional basis, but unfortunately the day job has been making much larger demands on my time this year. Doing these columns takes up a lot of time and I'll probably never be able to do it on a weekly basis again, but I hope to get back to doing it on and off once things calm down in RL.

6. Well now that's good news!
I was afraid that YOU didn't want to come back......

RL issues are another matter altogether......

Writing as excellent as yours does take a lot of time...not that I'd know anything about excellent writing....

C ya .......

9. Well, I have to say the election set me back.
For a long time I just didn't feel like writing columns any more. Now I feel like I would probably enjoy it, I just don't have the time.

11. I love it!
I need to get some supplies soon and have my daughter work on hers. She's only five so it might be interesting to see the final outcome.
