POKER QUESTION: I need a ruling
I had a full house - three eights and two queens. Anthony had a full house - three threes and two kings.

Which hand wins and why?

My thinking is that my eights beat his threes, and as they were the majority cards in the full house, that should trump. I am told this is wrong.

1. His kings beat your queens
That kinda came out misogynist, huh?

But if it's a casual game, the more sober player should win.

5. you are right
" A Full House, which is also referred to as the boat, is a combination of one three of a kind and one pair. Any ties are decided first with the three of a kind and then if necessary with the remaining pairs."

Hate it.

Lost thirty bucks last night on two consecutive hands of that game.

My first hand was four tens. Lost to four kings.

My second hand was four kings. Lost to four aces.

Total crap. Any poker game with wild cards isn't poker.

The set of three determines the winner. in case of tie, then the pair.

Anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

40. Nice
I play myself holdem online a couple of times a month.

Which site do you play on? You play in tourneys? Are you winning or losing?

I play on sportingbet.com... Play toyrnments only. Single and multitable - but I hate a toruney with more than 100 in it cause it takes at least 2 hours to get to the final table :( Also, I play small stakes - like 5 and 10 bucks tourneys.

43. poker stars
Doing Ok with nickle and dime game, trying to build up to move up a bit.

I am down about ten dollars because I got silly and went into a higher stakes game than my bankroll could sustain, but have built it back up an hour or so a night.

One nice thing is there is no rake on the 05/10 game. Anything higher and a rake kicks in.

I am a very conservative player and am constantly getting killed by idiots who should have folded after the flop hanging on and catching something at the river. But what can you do?

Did some tournies but my conservative style doesn't work as well there. Usually can finish in third out of a table of ten so at least I can make a little money but it can also take an hour and a half to make a profit of just a few bucks that way. Maybe when I get my bankroll decent enough I can try some more of those.

I's a lot of fun but I think I am a long way from making a living at it. I could go play for real down the road but I do not have a poker face. That is the greatest thing about online play. That and being able to ignore the occasional loudmouth. :-)

28. Nope
Kings beat queens. If you had 3 queens and he only had two kings, you would win. But regardless of that, his kings override that. Sorry.

30. I don't think you read the post. It was a full house. The higher trips
wins... in this case, the eights. The pair is inconsequential.

I wish to thank you Mr. Pitt. I have been equally entertained and enlightened by your material both here and in Truthout. This thread is a prime example of this as I would have sworn that the three eights and two kings to be the better hand.

38. Well, given that nobody had three eights and two kings...
it wouldn't have won... otherwise it would have. In this case, the three eights and two queens won.

I need to start playing poker with DUers. :)

doesn't matter what the pairs are.

There are no tiebreakers in full houses, unless you are using wild cards.

So you win, because eights beat threes.

In this case it does fall to the face cards. the kings would win. That comes from an ex-security man from Sam's Town, Las Vegas Location.
