Can anybody give me a DU summary of Lost? I've never seen it
or even read an article about the show. However, it certainly seems popular.

1. 43 survivors of a plane crash
on a deserted tropical island struggle to survive.

One is a doctor haunted by guilt over his father's death. One is a beautiful felon who was being returned to the states to face prison. One is a con man, One is a former member of the Iraqi Republican Guard. One is a heroin addicted rock star. One is an expectant mother. One is a paraplegic who can walk again due to the crash.

One is a spoiled rich Korean woman, whose husband doesn't know that she speaks English. Her husband, who speaks only Korean, got involved in organized crime through her father.

One is a father who let his wealthy wife take their son abroad. Now he's reunited with a son whom he barely knows and who resents him.

One is a lottery mutli-millionaire who's convinced that he's cursed.

There's a self-loathing stepbrother and sister pair.

There's something on the island that uproots trees and kills people. There's other people on the island as well. A mysterious and crazy Frenchwoman claims to be the sole survivor of a scientific expedition. She speaks of "others" who whisper in the jungle. One of the "survivors" was never on the plane at all.

There's a mysterious metal hatch in the ground in the middle of the jungle.

3. By God, do it
I guarantee you won't be disappointed. And they rerun the new shows enough that you can get up to speed fairly rapidly.

LOST is the first show I've seen in a while that fascinates me almost every minute. You really have to watch it carefully and put on your thinking cap. It's active television.

4. I second this recommendation - it's the best new show on television.
Try to watch them in order and if you are serious about seeing it don't read the many spoiler pages out there on the net.

The show is all about process, symbolism and character interaction.. the closer you pay attention the better it pays off.

7. Well worth it...
It's well-written, well-acted and unlike pretty much anything else that's been on television.

6. We don't want to spoil it for you...

Trust me, this one is much better going in with just the basics. Let the story unfold- that's half the fun of this format.

One thing I can say, however is that the shows structure is a calculated jab at the reality TV phenomena. It takes the basic concept of a reality show, and then proceeds to turn the format on its head with all the carefully scripted and conceived scenes and imagery.

8. When I first heard of the series
it was in a screenwriting pitch class, and the pitch for the pilot was "Castaway--on King Kong's Island"....and what's wonderful is that it is both an accurate description of the pilot, and not where the series ended up going...

9. Agreed!
Lost can be summed up by saying "A group of people are stranded on a mysterious island after miraculously surviving a plane crash" but that's a lot like saying "Raging Bull is a movie about boxing". It's right on the mark, but at the same time there is so much more...

10. What I love about it is that they set up questions...
AND answer them in such a way that leaves you with even more questions...
