My High Speed cable internet goes out at night. All night!
I called Cox Communications and they sent a tech out. He told me that its because of the spitters we have going out to the other computer in my son's room. I told him that the modem or the connection to their equipment is messed up. He would hear none of that. The splitters were disconnected and it worked OK. As soon as the sun goes down, it goes out. I called their troubleshooting line and they told me that only two others on my street have high speed service so its not like its an overloaded connection.
Anyone else have similar problems with high speed cable internet?
It damn frustrating when I get home from work at 11:30 PM and I have no service!

1. Have DSL
network problems all week from about 9:30 p.m. until morning. Disconnections, slow traffic, or no traffic. Yeah, I don't get a straight answer, either.

2. Seems like if it were the split off to the other computer then
it would be a problem when your son is pulling on the bandwidth

BUT

if his usage is independent of the problem, then it can't be that.

Right?

4. Bull
I have a cable modem and split the signal to three TVs in the house.

We did have to get an amp installed but the only problems we had were with digital cable reception. Not with the internet.

Let me tell you a story so you know the level of idiots you are dealing with.

I have Cox also. I have phone, internet and cable. Well, the phones acted up and they came out. Fixed the phone but we lost internet in my son's room.

The idiots used MY cat5, that I ran myself, to replace a length of phone line and left big ugly splices hanging out in the weather.

Took a week to convince them of this. In fact, they said it was impossible becasue you can't use CAT5 for a phone line. Which is utter nonsense, of course.

So, they finally came out and rewired my son's room. And they CUT THE LINE to my daughter's upstairs room in the process.

I was livid. Told them I would hire a professional (myself) to rewire the whole thing and send them the bill at $100.00 an hour. They finally came out and fixed it all and the guy told us that they have about five people who know how to wire this stuff. Five people for all of Oklahoma City which is a very big city.

And it really isn't that hard to understand this type of wiring.

And just as a final topper, my wife went to their payment center today which they wired themselves and damned if their computers weren't all down and if you did not have your account number they could not take a payment.

This is supposed to be a cutting edge hi-tech company. My brother-in-law works for them in their networking and I hate to say it but he isn't really the brightest guy in the world. Certainly not up to the standard I would expect for a "hi-tech" company.

5. By splitters, do you mean routers?
Most cable companies won't allow two cable modems. So I assume you have a DSL/Cable router and that is what they are complaining about?

If you do actually have two cable modems then get rid of one and get a router and wire your house.

Clarify this a bit and let's see if we can help you figure it out.

6. I think he means the cable splitter the ISP has so - for example -
one line can go to the computer and the other to the TV.

7. not sure
He said splitter to the other computer. I read it the other way at first, prompting my rant about Cox.

OP, are you there, we need a clarification please. :-)
