5. I wish that I were a talented make up artist
I never learned that skill. My mother gave me a hard time about it as a teen but never offered to help me with it. I even have a difficult time drawing my eye liner lines straight and not getting it into my eyes. I can't seem to do blush well either, especially since the act of applying it makes me look redder while I am doing it. The expensive foundation that I got from a department store make up counter drys on my skin and makes me look older. It also seems to be a lighter shade than my actual skin tone. I haven't even attempted concealer.
I get hard on myself with not looking attractive, but I am neither a make up artist nor employ one.

11. There are professionals who will teach you the skills.
I had a makeover done by a Revlon employee who had also done makeup for "stars" in television. She taught me everything, all the little shading tricks, what kind of makeup. It was spendy, but by the time we got through with the lesson, I could change my appearance after 10 minutes of careful makeup application and still manage to look natural.

It was amazing. Of course, I'm so lazy when it comes to makeup that after a year or so, even 10 minutes seemed like too long. :)

12. some of the salespeople or a Mary Kay person
could probably help you with that, at no extra cost. Of course, you have to be careful about getting help from somebody who is trying to sell you something. One of my sisters or sister in law could help too, or any female friend of yours.
I do not like your last line though. First, as a married woman you are probably more attractive than you give yourself credit for. Second, because superficial beauty on the outside is not as important as beauty of the heart and mind. Third, it is not like the face is the first place a man looks anyway, and he should be looking into your eyes rather than at your eye-liner. Fourth, as is typical with these before and after pictures, they cheated a little bit by making the 2nd picture brighter and by changing the hairstyles - both of the women look better, in large part, because their hair is no longer tied back. Fifth, simple things like long hair, a bright smile, and a chipper attitude can go a long ways without the need for artificial enhancements. Sixth, there are alot of women out there, Tammy Faye Bakker is the most egregious example, who spend alot of time, effort, and money on cosmetics that either do not help anything aethetically, or actually cause harm. So my wish is for you not to be too hard on yourself.

28. Never mind me, I've been going through a personal crisis
I am a fallen perfectionist, who hasn't adapted well to normal adult living. I was a good student and good track athlete in high school and college. I had good friends and community in those places too. Things really seem to have gone downhill since then.
I guess since everything else seems out of control, my appearance seems like one thing that I could control. It seems that everything that I thought that was good about me doesn't seem to get me anything or is of value in the world that I live in. I am not saying that we should be something or do things just to get things, but when you don't sometimes it makes you wonder about your worth. It seems that there is some worth in one's appearance and not in just finding a mate, who I already have. I could go into a long explanation why I feel this way and more ironically why I don't really want to be valued for my appearance even though I think about it often, but that's another discussion.
I am glad that you are a believer in non superficial beauty. That is good.

31. with the way I look
it is in my self interest to be a believer in non superficial beauty. I understand the grades and school thing as well, except I lost my grade satisfaction in college. But out of school you lose the reward that you used to get from acing tests and classes, and all of that previous work does not seem to translate directly into good jobs or important, satisfying work. The tests in the real world are not as clear cut, nor is the evidence, to your bosses, co-workers or yourself, that you are good at what you do, and appreciated for it. Sometimes the rest of the world seems to be tearing me down because they feel like my goodness makes them look bad. And being constantly under attack and/or stuck in a menial job it is easy to feel that 'I am not smart enough, I am not good enough, and, darn it all, people do not seem to like me.' It never used to be that way because a couple of times a semester a test would come back with an "A" on it and tell me it was not true, but don't let the bastids get ya down.

26. That old saying, "believe none of what you hear and half of what you see."
That goes double for models.

I know a model. She is naturally beautiful, always has been, a lovely person in appearance and in disposition. In photographs she is a truly awesome beauty. Yet you would never recognize her in real life from her photos. That's just the way it is.

BTW, she left the modeling business because she said it was just too weird, too frantic, too much pressure. Being beautiful isn't an easy ride for many women, not by a long shot.

they have to take approximately 150 - 200 shots.

29. In the last one...the "after" shot looks worse. :-)
However, the other ones look nice. I think there is a bit of airbrushing going on there too, as well as makeup.
