Why does Fox say the Yanks win the AL East if they win today? |
|
I thought the Yankees could win today, the Red Sox tomorrow and it's all tied and on to a playoff game?
Am I mistaken?

1. I think the Yankees win it |
|
Because if they and the Red Soxs end with the exact same record. . the Yankees have a better AL east record?
Someone back me up on that?

4. One error there I think. |
|
I don't think the AL east record is the tie-breaker, but rather the BOS vs NY record that has been established this year. Have you guys been losing to the yankees regularly?

5. Oh I'm not a Red Sox fan |

But the yankees do have a better season record than the Red Sox this year I believe so you might be right on that.

3. In games between BOS and NY, who has won more this season? |
|
There was a similar situation with the Sox and the Indians on friday. The sox won and were 3 games ahead in the AL central with 3 games to go against the indians this weekend. This meant that the Indians could have theoretically tied up with the sox by winning all 3 games, but even then the decision would come down to who has won more sox-indians games. The answer to that was the sox, thus the AL Central title was clinched.

7. is it based on divisional record? head to head? |
|
something else?
I don't remember that being the rule in the old days (i.e., 1978)

8. They just guaranteed winning the season series |
|
Even if the Sox win tomorrow, they will have won ten of ninteen games this season. If the Sox do win tomorrow, technically the two teams will be tied at the end of the season. The tiebreaker, then is the season series.

10. slightly more complicated than that |
|
This wouldn't be the case if the Indians didn't lose today. If Boston wins tomorrow, they'd be tied with the Yankees, but they also would have clinched the wild card. Since both the Yankees and Sox would be assured of a playoff spot, they don't play an actual tiebreaker, but they would have if the Indians won today and tomorrow, as there would be a three-way tie.

That call was shit. You can not leave the base path to avoid a tag. Even children know that.

But the funny thing is, I don't even follow sports. Other than Steinbrenner hating I don;t really have any interest.
I did want to clarify that though. It's not the yankees. It's that asshole George (funny how many assholes named George there are) who ruined baseball that I hate.

and I think that's why the hate the Yanks.
I liked the Yanks since I was in diapers, and until the Yanks won the Series again in 1996, us fans suffered through a lot of down years.
