Are "Love" and "Liberalism" the same thing? |
|
"Love" has a stigma among some. It seems to mean, "I WANT something".
I don't see it that way. To me, "Love" means, I believe in you and want the best for you, whatever your path. Just don't step on anyone else while you're at it, and we can be at peace.
It also means, your welfare is important to me. The RW has tarnished the meaning of "welfare". It means wel·fare ( P ) Pronunciation Key (wlfâr) n.
Health, happiness, and good fortune; well-being. Prosperity.
Is this the fundamental difference between progressives and fascists? (don't even kid yourself that they are "conservative") They want the opposite of what we do? They want death and destruction and greed at all costs?
Are "Love" and "Liberalism" the same? Or do I still have idealistic tendencies?

Wanting the government to care for the disadvantaged is completely pragmatic, and may have nothing to do with love. "Care for these people," we may ask our government, "so that I don't have to."
For all that our friends on the right don't seem to be able to muster much compassion, their idealized view of charity is more up-close and personal, and more deserving of the word.
If they lived up to that, though, I'd be one of them.
