Okay Lounge..How do you relieve stress? |
|
What do you do when you get a little too uptight (besides post in the lounge)?
Tell me the best way to relieve stress.

Trail running is much more therapeutic, however. What do you do?

not many trails around my area though. I also like to lift weights and bike. I find that daily meditation also keeps my stress levels down.

52. Hey, I got ACTUALLY hit three times, not almost, |
|
and I'm still riding. But have lots and lots of those red LED flashers festooned all over the bike now.
Next son of a bitch who hits me is going to have a LOT of explaining to do in front of the judge.

on the parts of the drivers.
That's why I have five (yes, five!) of those red LED flashers on my bike now. Plus a headlight with flashing white LEDs. The next son of a bitch who hits me is going to have a REALLY hard time explaining it to a judge.

89. I get close to that. Besides the lights, I have some reflectivecuffs |
|
that I use to cinch up my pants legs so they don't get chain grease on them. In a headlight beam, the up-and-down motion of the reflected light has GOT to make any car driver think, "what the fuck is THAT?" And make them slow down while they try to figure it out.

Look for Iyengar or Hatha yoga. Iyengar especially is best for beginners because they give a lot of instruction about how to the posture, how to get in and out of the pose, etc. Here's a CD-ROM I found at Iyengar's main site: http://www.bksiyengar.com/modules/Referen/CDROMs/cdrom.htm

Seriously a bit of computer escapism or watching entertainment on TV (or DVD) is usually in order. However the biggest stress relief I have is my wife and my son. (Sometimes they're my biggest cause of stress too but that's because of the things I do _for_ them not what they do _to_ me.)

I still use t.v. as an escape once or two a week--just lately, it's one of the hillariously badly-acted dramas on FOX or occasionally something on one of the bigger networks. I have my "angry" music. I have other websites--funny sites, not having to do with politics. Hot showers. Cake.

Then, come inside and play with Cora, my daughter. If she's not in the mood for the attention, I'll go paint Warhammer minis, specifically Empire and Wood Elves. Very relaxing. Very calming. If I can't do that long enough, I may write about my experience through verse. If I can't do that, then I play video games. I deal with stress well, usually. Unless it's frustration, then I get pissy about it all.
I've really had to change a lot. When I was a teen, I would run or toss around the football or go play baseball. Baseball is the ultimate stress reliever for me. But, a labrum and AC tear in my shoulder caused me to lose scholarships, but I still got a chance to play in the minors, but hurt it again. So, I am very careful with using my arm.
But, everything's worked out. I have a great wife, step-daughter, and daughter.

I pullover and drag their bodies out of their vehicles and kick them until they die of blood loss.
Or, sometimes, I just take a nap.

inhale from a soaked cotton ball - or just rub some on your wrist - and put a few drops in a bubblebath. or come over and sit with me on my front porch and listen to old albums - we'll light the incense and candles - and appreciate the absolute serenity of living way out in the country!

91. Weight Lifting does it for me. |

There's such a deep penetration with the stress that no matter how bad a day you have had, lifting weights will ALWAYS make you feel better.

It's a nasty, expensive habit, and I need to quit, but there you are. After the last breakup I went through, I did a pack and a half, plus bummed squares, in 24 hours. I also find that old style board drafting, with t-squares and triangles and different types of pencils is incredibly calming (so is AutoCAD, but slightly less so). Taking a drafting class got me through junior year of high school. Also, sitting around in my bathrobe playing computer games is nice.
