calling all baseball trivia nuts- why the white sox will win |
|
ok, i was raised a cub fan, but have recovered from this affliction. and i haven't watched much b-ball for a while. but these white sox have been so great to watch. i am hooked. i think they are going all the way. here's why- this is my very off the cuff impression, and i hope you trivia junkies can help me out, if i am wrong. i do not remember ever seeing a team go out, the day after clinching, hung over, fielding the bench players, and win a game they did not need to win. yet the white sox not only won the 'day after' game, they won the 2 after that. against a good team that should have been fighting hard for their last chance. played hard all 3 games. made cleveland eat dirt. so, what i wonder is this- is there a statistical correlation between winning that day after game, and winning it all? i have to bet there is. win or die trying.

2. Actually, they have a hell of a shot against the Red Sox. |
|
The matchups are great. Clement is a guile pitcher that relies on aggressive hitters swinging at bad stuff. Contreras (sp?) has been pitching very well and is a strikeout guy. White Sox also have the bullpen to beat Boston's aggressive lineup. The point against Boston is to make sure Garland keeps the damn ball down. I would make him throw low all the game, occasionally going high and give him one hiccup, then pull'em. But, otherwise, you have a good shot.
They probably won't get any further than the ALCS, no offense meant. The Yanks match up well against them and the Angels are superior.
If the make the series, then they'll draw the Cards, Astros, or Braves and the best match up they could ask for would be the Astros, even with the good pitching. For some odd reason, the people on ESPN think the Astros' offense is amazing, when it's had trouble off and on. They're streaky and the playoffs can streak up and down.
