Women never have emergency amputations in movies. |
|
I was watching day after tomorrow last night with my kids, and one of the girl characters gets an infection from a cut on her leg. They determine she's got to get antibiotics or ... (they don't even SAY it).
I looked at my 2 girls and just laughed and said "women never have an amputation in the movies", it's politically incorrect. If it was a guy, they'd be ripping up someone's shirt to make a tourniquet. And of course, they found penicillin for the woman.
While at that moment I perceived this truth, I then wracked my brain and couldn't think of a single time in a movie where a women had to have a limb amputated. Real-life type dramas aside, can you think of a woman - amputation scene?

1. I have one, sort of. In the movie "Siege" starring Annette Bening and |

Denzel Washington, there is a terrorist bombing at a fancy opera house; as the survivors are struggling out of the wreckage there is a horrific shot of an lovely asian woman walking slowly down the grand stair case in a full length ball gown -- and her left arm is a bleeding stump at the elbow. So gruesome, they edited the scene for teevee.
Fantastic movie BTW. The bush regime used it as a boiler plate for the PNAC engineered attacks on NYC and DC.
