HELP! Problem w/my (noisy) computer- can anyone advise?
Howdy- I bought this computer last November, immediately installed tons of software and configured it the way I like.... SO, once I started using it discovered that it would start to make a loud noise periodically (the noise soundss like air blowing). This noise lasts for a minute or so then stops abruptly. This noise seems to happen about every 10 or 20 minutes.

i ignored it for a long time because I didn't want to have to exchange the PC after I had set it up) and I work from home and NEED my PC. However, now the noise is bugging thehell out of me.

Does anyone have a clue what it might be? Is it the exhaust fan? Why does it stop and start like that? How can I fix it?

I have an HP Pavillion A730n. Aside from the god-awful noise, it works very well!

thanks- i am pretty hardware-illiterate.

1. Is it a laptop?
If you don't give them enough air underneath the fan will kick on and off like that to try to cool it off. Make sure the legs are extended and theres airflow down there.

6. I agree - sounds like the fan
stops but then starts again to cool. Yeah, have them take a look at it, should be easy to fix. :hi:

3. I think (hope) that is normal for a laptop.
Mine does that, too.

Cools it down.
