I do think that it's ironic that Republicans in general condemn non-Stepford looks, when that look is so awful.

I don't think that her appearance means anything, but she is a public figure and I think it's fair to criticize her appearance --> as it relates to her public relations.

Ex: It isn't fair to blast Madeline Albreight, who does not look like a supermodel (who are usually unhealthy looking anyway, but that's beside my point). But it would be fair to comment on any attempt to make her over to be more like a supermodel.

It's like Katherine Harris. Who cares that she's unfortunate looking (it's her facial expression more than her facial features, I think)? But it is a political tactic to try to manipulate the public with an extreme makeover a la Paula Jones. I don't think it's unreasonable to discuss someone's looks, when they bring it up.
