6. I'll refrain from the acid (like my wine better) but I shall consider the
killing spree.

4. Yell "George ** sucks Donkey Dicks!" out the car window
That's cheery.

I come to DU.

I take a nap.

I play happy, fun music.

I look at old photo albums.

I look at pictures of Hugh and Viggo.

I go talk to a horse. Seriously. Try it. Horses are great listeners.

8. That's funny - I was just telling a friend of mine over the weekend to
get back into riding horses. She used to have a horse when she was growing up but hasn't been around them for years. She's going through a rough time right now and I was trying to cheer her up.

I will try the 'Yell', though.

Thanks

10. You should go ride with her
and both of you can yell, "George ** sucks elephant dicks" as you canter past the locals. (Horses might get offended if you insult their cousins, the donkeys)

11. That's true - and as the elephant is THEIR mascot, that seems fitting.

7. I talk to and hug my big ole dog.
This is Big Sexy:

He never leaves me, he never judges me, he never ignores me. That, and he seems to "get" my moods, and when I've had a bad day, he comes over and sits on me. That's his way.

13. He's uhhh...
A humane society special. He should be around 5 years old, and he's Great Dane and ?. Probably 90% Dane and 10% pointer or something.

He's 100% perfect.

If you can't have a dog, maybe you could volunteer at your local shelter. Walking, brushing and hugging has never been so needed, wanted (and free!)...

12. go pet a basketful of kittens (or puppies, or bunnies, or whatever)
The SPCA has an adoption center near my place, and I sometimes go there to visit. It reminds me that there are other creatures which have absolutely no knowledge of anything that is bugging me.

If you have no pets and are unable to find a basket of kittens, arrange to look after a friend's pet for a little while. A lot of people are pleasantly surprised to be able to take off for a weekend without the "furkids" along, or just have you walk the dog for them if it's raining. And you can just leave after that, and not have to be responsible for the pet for the rest of its life.

One woman I know bakes stuff and brings it to work whenever she's upset. Sometimes it's cookies and pastries -- but she also does appetizers. We all try to upset her as much as possible, in the hope that she will bring our favorites next time. I've tried this and it actually takes my mind off things and gives me at least an illusion of control (if I can get the stuff out of the oven without burning it, I feel like I've accomplished something).

Don't do what I did. I was bummed out after breaking up with my boyfriend, and drank a coke on an empty stomach. The caffeine and sugar sent me into an emotional tailspin, and I felt awfully depressed for a couple of days after. (It felt like a couple of years!)

15. Pets! Very good ideas.
Edited on Tue Oct-04-05 08:11 PM by Democrats_win
Getting a dog to bark on command is really hard. So when I got a new puppy, I taught him to do it. True, when I say, "bark" he sits there and thinks about it but after a few seconds he does it: "bark." I think he's shy because when his instincts kick in such as when the trash man comes he grabs his purple football, shakes his head and barks. Yes he barks with the miniture football in his mouth! What a dog! Cocker Spaniels are very good dogs.

14. I cook when I need to cheer myself up
A few hours in the kitchen doing something repetitive and soothing help to calm my frazzled nerves. If that doesn't work at least I'll have something good to eat. Eating is my other hobby when I'm in a shitty mood. Anyhow, life creates few problems a pan of scratch cinnamon rolls can't correct.

If that still hasn't fixed my mood (rare but it happens) I take a nice long bath with lavender oil and bubbles then put my flannel PJs on and re-read my favorite book for the umpteenth time.

16. Nuzzle up to my cat. - But also
At a point in my life not entirely dissimilar to the state you describe, I threw myself into volunteer work. You'd be amazed how good it makes you feel to contribute.
