now whenever the network hiccups, I lose my phone. Great plan, that was. :eyes:

16. Somebody has to implement QoS / bandwidth control.
Like HTB or CBQ, so voice packets have a clear path no matter what. Otherwise, the phones ARE going to hiccup whenever someone downloads a large file.

Another BAD BAD BAD idea is using the VoIP phones' ability to cascade the network cable. Just don't. Have them go directly into their own port on the switch.

You & matcom work at the same place?

19. nah-- we're half a continent apart
I just moved into a new building on Monday, with an all new VoIP system. Actually, it's worked pretty well so far, except for one reboot on Monday morning.

However, I know of others whose transition to VoIP has not been as painless as ours...

20. no such luck
the owner has invested in the VOIP company and we get to be their TEST BED :eyes:

our network won't support it at all. christ, we run DUMB terminals! (again, the insistance of the owner who thinks its cool)

large files?

they are mortgage brokers :eyes:

we are doomed.

23. NeoWare (Win 2003)
he thinks its the 'wave of the future'

people can't understand why when ONE person runs a broker report (that takes 20 minutes) they ALL slow to a crawl.

oh and THAT is WITH 5 full T1's coming in :eyes:

oh yeah, over EIGHT offices @ 200+ users
