So I get my stitches out today... and my doctor...
responds with complete silence when I explain that I was in DC for the war protest. Before that moment, he really was a sweetie. Oh well. *sigh* I don't know why I expected something different from him. Or maybe he agreed with me and felt he couldn't say it? x(

2. He's a fucking freeper
I bet he is. That happened to me with my neighbor. She was always very friendly to me and talkative until she saw my Don't Blame Me I Voted for Kerry t-shirt.

3. It was weird.... he was so sweet up until that moment...
and although he's a new doctor for me, I've seen him three times already, and he's always been extremely nice. I can't imagine why he would think he shouldn't comment, other than that he disagrees with me. It sucks.

I think if he agreed with you, he would either act like he normally does or even nicer. Fuck him.

9. Yeah, but as you said... it's a family of doctors...
so, I suppose it's feasible that they be republicans. My dad was, until he retired... which happened to coincide with the onset of Bush....

8. That's true. I don't know why this surprised me so much.
He's still a good doctor, so I won't be switching over it. And I suppose I should be happy people don't throw me away when they find out what a bleeding heart liberal I am.

But... honestly, I have only met one gay woman who was republican... no, make that two... no wait... I forgot about... oh god... my head's hurting again.

:hi:

6. My Dentist is such a fucking freeper it isn't even funny
but you know what, he's really fucking good at what he does.

He learned I was in the Marines, after the usual bullshit questions, and then started to go on about how fun it must be to be in combat, or to be an embed, and 'why wouldn't you want to go to war', and blah blah fucking blah. I stopped talking politics with him, he fucking kicks ass at dentistry, that's what i pay him for, and that's all i want.

Also, I was there one night a few hours before the State of the Union address, he said to his aides "We'd better bring a tv in here and turn it to Fox News" - but that's okay, I was already crying

25. Same here..
... my dentist has a gimme cap collection on the ceiling of his patient room. Hmm... I wonder if he votes Dem?

But he's a very good dentist, one of the few around here that hasn't moved into a new building, bought all new equipment, and doubled their rates.

We talk small talk.

11. Glad you got the stitches out!
If he really didn't like your politics, he could have made that very painful for you. :scared:

Remember, many doctors get their start in the military and many ex-military folks don't want to believe that their president is screwing up the country.

Also, don't forget Bush and tort reform - doctors love that.

So glad those stitches are gone.

17. My doctor had an entirely different reaction today.
:) His gray hair is longer than mine and he wears it in a braid. He's given up on hoping that things will get better. He thinks that our current administration can bring an end to our entire way of life. He said "Societies have fallen before due to bad leadership." But it made him smile that we are still willing to put ourselves out for what we believe in.

18. Nowadays...
Edited on Wed Oct-05-05 07:55 PM by sendero
.... if I have a doctor, mechanic, repairman, etc that I like, I just am careful to not bring up politics.

I don't really want to lose any of them over this crap. I don't want to think less of them and I don't want them to think less of me.

I already lost a really good neighbor friend, that's enough.

The fact that I'd be unable to hide my disdain should I find they were a freeper is definitely a factor. :)

19. I just carry a Chomskey book in when I visit the doc.
and with all the doctors I have it's nice to know most of them think Bush sucks hard.

One of my docs told a doc (who's a neighbour of mine) that of all his patients, he'd want to hang out with me!

20. I had a similarly distressing situation on a plane in April.
I had a great conversation almost all the way to Boston with my seat mate - this woman in her early 60s. We talked about music and religion and children and her work with the poor in Haiti... And then she asked me why I was going to Boston. I told her I was meeting up with some friends I had met on a website called Democratic Underground. "A liberal website?" she asked. And then she never said another word to me for the rest of the trip. :( How sad is it that two people can have a lot in common, and obviously enjoy talking to each other...but the minute you find out you disagree about politics, nothing else matters?

28. That is so obnoxious
I know some people who I have strong political disagreements with that I like alot---they are otherwise good people. One or two of them debate me in a non-vicious, non-personal way but with most I do not bring it up at all, and neither do they

21. Unfortunately most doctors are Repubs, whether in "red" states or "blue".
It's mostly due to income/tax bracket, but there are also issues like tort reform where the Repubs typically go the same way as the physician's lobby and Dem candidates like Edwards are typically aligned with the trial lawyer/plaintiff side of malpractice issues.

This doesn't mean that doctors are a monolithic group by any means, but if you were to pick a random doctor and bet, you'd do a lot better betting that they are a Repub than a Dem.

My doctor came to my Kerry fundraising party last May. He had already maxed out with his $2k, but he was a great party guest.

I hope you're arm is all better.
