Scabies. Hitchhikers from Phoenix.

So I got back from Phoenix EARLY (1:30 am) Saturday morning. Monday morning at work I notice a couple of itchy bumps on the back of my right hand. Stuff happens - didn't think anything of it.

Monday night I'm in bed and my right wrist starts itching like crazy. It looks like I've been bitten by a spider. Stuff happens - I didn't think anything of it.

A little while later - the itching starts further up my arm. More bites - then more, further up.

Tuesday morning there's a few more on my left arm. I'm starting to wonder WTF is going on.

Wednesday I go to the doctor. SCABIES, he tells me. Fucking scabies.

I can't believe it.

I've never even had lice when half my class was out with it. :puke:

:grr:

2. Scabies are nasty
Sorry you have these critters.

I caught them once from a student. Ended up having to wash all towels, all clothing,(each and every time after one use), dry clean those that weren't washable, and used an iron on my furniture, mattress, and carpeting, (the heat kills them). These buggers multiply and spread fast. Hope you can stop'em quickly!!

Did you fly in from PHX? If so, you could have gotten them from the plane seat. Did you stay in a motel? Can get them from the bedding...some motels are not as clean as they pretend to be...

Am sure the doc gave you good advice, but just in case, here's a little more:

5. So far, so good.
Did the 16 hour pesticide cream crap from head to toe - so far, no new itchy bumps. I'm worried about my SO though - I read that the scabies REALLY like male genitals. :scared:

Luckily he is VERY cool and knows it's through no fault of my own. And he's prepared to deal with it if it happens.

I flew out of Seattle - and yes, into PHX. Stayed in an excellent hotel, and it was very clean. HOWEVER - hotels don't wash blankets and comforters between guests - just sheets. That's where I'm thinking they came from, but I guess I'll never know for sure.

Hopefully I got them all - I'm afraid I may not have. I did go to the doctor within 48 hours of seeing the first bump - hopefully that helped!

Thanks for the links.
