I was asked for my ID when buying |
|
ADVIL COLD AND SINUS Medicine. The pharmacist at Walgreens took my ID and wrote down my ID number and my name and address.
All of this to buy once was an over the counter medicine. I told her that unlike the president I've never been high a day in my life.
Oy vey! What are we coming to when we willingly accept this?
Our rights are being taken away one by one in the name of the drug war and so called war on terra and little is being done about it.
If this has been law for awhile this is the first time I have experienced it as it's the first time I've bought cold meds in a year.

1. She probably thinks you're cooking up some meth. |

Guess the runny nose, feverish eyes & cough wasn't enough of a disguise.

3. Oh now your on "the list" |
|
Our country must crack down on meth heads it's the most important way to track future cold and sinus sufferers. It's much more important than doing anything real to possibly save our future as a species. Yes we live in a country without a leader and one of our most important goals is to stop cold medicines from being abused.:sarcasm:

4. To be honest, the new law is helping out in the midwest |
|
I've read some reports where the crackdown is helping cut back on the number of illegal meth labs.
Let's face it - mass producers of meth can easily get their hands on bulk purchases of the cold meds. But the scarey thing is when you live next door to some Mom&Pop meth lab where they want to cook enough of this crap for their own habits and to sell a little on the side.
Mind you they are cooking down the pills with fertilizer and drano. The lab is extremely explosive - you don't want one next door to your home.
I had to deal with the same thing when I stopped at a Target in MD on the way home from DC. I wanted some Nyquil because I knew a cold was coming on and I had to go to the pharmacy to get it. They were out of it anyways because Nyquil is reformulating to take the pseudoephedrine out of the mixture. I have a feeling we're going to see more drug companies do this to their cold meds just so they don't have to deal with the hassle.

5. There's word of Sudafed becoming Prescription-only |
|
because of its status as an ingredient in Crystal Meth. If that happens, the problem would be that to obtain it consumers will have to cough up the cost of a doctor's visit - a prohibitive expense in the case of some lower-income families.

7. Back in the 70's, Sudafed was a prescription only drug. |
|
I recall getting a script for it back then. When it became over-the-counter, I was glad since I no longer needed the hassle and expense of a doctor's visit.
I don't mind it being behind the counter and having to ask for it but this tracking bullshit has gone too far, IMHO.

11. Having to ask for it isn't the problem |
|
or even limiting the number of packages you can buy. I don't like the part about having to show ID or sign anything. That is pretty sinister.

8. I think most cold meds are going to take the pseudoephridrine out |
|
of their medicines. There is other stuff that can be used that can take care of a cold without adding to the crystal meph problem in this country.
To be honest, my last cold the doctor gave me a prescription to a stronger pseudoephrine prescriptiona and all it did was keep me up for 3 days. I've found that the stuff rarely works on me

9. Wonder if it was straight ephedrine your doctor gave you |
|

Amazing you can still get some formulas of that, like Vasopro, OTC. I'm not the paternalistic type, but that the FDA would permit that makes me wonder about its agenda. From its label:
WARNING: Do not use Vasopro unless a diagnosis of asthma has been made by a physician. Do not use Vasopro if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, diabetes, or difficulty in urination due to enlargement of the prostrate gland unless directed by a physician. Do not use Vasopro if you have been hospitalized for asthma or if you are taking any prescription drug for asthma, unless directed by a physician. Do not continue to use Vasopro, but seek medical assistance immediately if symptoms are not relieved within 1 hour or become worse. Some users of Vasopro may experience nervousness, tremors, sleeplessness, nausea or loss of appetite.
Who over 55 doen't have at least one of the ailments listed in the second sentence? That was the whole problem with Ma Huang as a diet aid. Same drug, different indication.
:wtf:
Also, I believe ephedrine's more chemically similar to amphetamine than pseudoephedrine and that part of the process in making crystal meth is to knock the pseudo part off the molecule.

12. Reason 7838728816917879 to stay in the Northeast... |
|
I bought all kinds of sudafed/psuedoepehedrine stuff the other week. Some for me, some for the kid.... and not a peep.
I understand no one wants a meth head buying their wares at the local drugstore, but sheesh!
