Statistics regarding online dating?

I don't have time to research this but the question is burning a hole in my brain....;) As I've said before, you guys are brilliant, so this is my "go to" place for information of all types....thanks!

I thought there were many more single women in the States than single men. From what I've heard, especially from men who are involved with various online dating sites, there are a TON more men than women listed on these sites. They seem to feel the women most definitely have the upper hand.

Perhaps the vast majority of the men at these sites are married....lol....I wouldn't be surprised about that, and maybe that explains the seeming contradiction. I would think this is a very safe environment for women to engage in the "fishing" process, so I'm surprised there aren't more women than men at these sites.

Any thoughts/info?
