Here in Denver it is going up from $1.25 to $1.50 on January 1 or $54/monthly pass for local service. This would not include Boulder or far out burbs. How does that compare to your city?

2. With the price of gas, that's a bargain |
|
We're out in the burbs, so there's not much of a bus service here. But, Jason takes the train into Chicago every day. His month pass is $136. To bypass the traffic hassles, cost of gas, and price of parking, it is well worth it.

13. I pay $10 a month for the county bus |
|
because my company is involved in the ride share program. $10 alone only gets me about a quarter of a tank. In the morning I get to drink coffee and read a book as I watch the vineyards pass by. I don't have to drive with the sun blinding my eyes or get stuck in a line because of construction or deal with lame drivers. In the evening I have to wait longer since the bus is late and people smoke like no tomorrow and get home around 6:30. So it's like an 11-hour day all told.

3. Count me in as a committed mass transit person |
|
I ride the bus and the metro train here in St. Louis every work day. One way is $1.75. If you have to change busses or change from a bus to a train it's a .25 transfer. So, for me each way to work is $2.00. I buy a monthly pass for unlimited rides for $65.00
As an aside, St. Louis has the worst public transportation system of any large city I've ever lived in. It takes forever to get places and routes and runs continue to be eliminated. Our mass transit system is heavily dependent on state funds and the yahoos in the Missouri legislature love nothing more than to stick it to St. Louis and KC.

My *new* $1.50 is unlimited transfers. My $54 is still cheaper than your $65. I live in D/T Denver and it's ok to get most places, the burbs have lousy transfers..the buses come once/hour. Maybe this will get better when everyone starts busing!!!!

€210 for six months, student discount, that does include all of greater Berlin and most of the surrounding state. Undiscounted it should be about €50 a month.

the monthly pass is $66. Some employers subsidize pretty heavily- my partner's work subsidizes to the point he only needs to pay $75 for the year. My old employer used to subsidize as well, and I'd have to pay about $150 a year.
That gets you anywhere in the tri-county area and works on the bus, the light rail and streetcar. It is a pretty good deal, actually.
I don't think $54 sounds bad at all.

That $54 is only for local, it more than doubles for regional to $135 if I wanted to work in Boulder

Tri-met is the agency. They cover most of Clackamas, Washington and Multnomah counties. Portland takes up a huge portion of Multnomah County.
I can catch a bus about a half of a mile from my home (which is farther than many, but I'm living in the 'burbs now) and be downtown in under 20 minutes. From there, I can take the light rail (MAX) to the airport. It actually goes to right to the terminal. It is very convenient and far cheaper than driving to the airport and parking a car overnight or for several days.
Light rail goes from Gresham to the east of Portland, through downtown and then all the way to Hillsboro to the west of Portland. It is a 33 mile line. The bus lines cover far more area, of course.

$1.75. I don't remember how much a monthly pass is, but a 10-ride pass was (I assume still is) $15.75.
I live right next to campus now, so I don't need to take the bus anymore, which is nice.
(Those are Canadian dollars, by the way.)

what can you do? I don't drive so I just have to wait forever and cough it up when the bus finally decides to show up.

17. Sounds like St. Louis |
|
I (ruefully) joke that Bi-State should save money by not printing schedules. The buses are never anywhere near on time. I've just resigned myself to standing on the side of the street and waiting until the bus comes. Oh well, at least it gives me time for reading.

but are proposing it for 1/1/06. It may be as high as $4.50 (3 trips) which I think is high. $3.75 sounds better to me.

19. Lol! Well the bus system in Baltimore is so ass-backwards |
|
that they have to offer an all day pass for people who have to transfer 3 or 4 times. I think they're about to change the routes so they are more direct, but that will probably come with another rate hike. $4.50 is really high, jeez!

its easy to get most places but soem still require transwfers and the buses are not well scheduled so it can take forever. Be fore I accept a job I check to see the bus route. If it's more than 2 buses I won't accept it...that can take 2 hours with waiting time. Most of our stops do not have sheltors so you can stand in the rain for 30 minutes.

They raised the fares here too, you would think that they would want everyone to ride the bus, to conserve.....and keep the fares down. Does Einstein ride the bus also?

A return into the nearest town (High Wycombe) from here is £2.75 - but the service is very good, every 15mins during the day.

25. They're threatening $2 in Jan. in Chicago, up from $1.75 |
|
Which isn't that bad, but right now, $2 gets you a transfer, which I use a lot commuting. Still, compared to running a car, paying for parking and gas and insurance, it's a deal.
